How to Apply for the 2011 APSCUF-WCU Scholarship
Two scholarships of $1,000 each are available. Please note all requirements listed below.
Applications are due by April 21, 2011. Complete applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee and winners will be announced by May 2, 2011.
- The applicant must have completed at least 30 credits and have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- All of the above-stated credits must have been earned at WCU or one of the thirteen other PASSHE state-owned universities.
- A scholarship application form must accompany the application
- Sealed transcript(s) must accompany the application.
- A letter of recommendation by a WCU faculty member who is a member of APSCUF must accompany the application.
- A 500-word applicant-written essay must accompany the application (See guidelines below).
Essay Requirements for $1,000 General Scholarship
The essay should be on the topic of "How My Education and Leadership Accomplishments Are Preparing Me For My Future Goals or Career." The essay should address some area of student leadership or activity as a student here at West Chester and how this has prepared you for your career. Please include a statement as to why you are attending college and what you hope to achieve as a result of your education. The essay should be no more than 500 words, typed, and double-spaced.
Essay Requirements for $1,000 Special Scholarship
For the labor union scholarship, the essay should address the points outlined above, but also include a discussion of the role of unions in promoting American ideals and higher education. Please attach evidence of a family member's union membership (i.e., copy of membership card, letter from administrator, etc.).
