Rules for the Election

    • Please note: These rules have been updated to comply with the recent agreement between APSCUF and University Management.
    • This election is for two seats with different terms. The candidate with the highest vote count will be elected to the Tenure and Promotion Committee with a 2-year term ending Spring 2018. The candidate with the next highest vote count will be elected for a 1-year term ending Spring 2017 provided they are from a different School and/or Department as the candidate seated for the 2-year term. If the candidate with the next highest vote count is disqualified because they belong to the same School or Department as the person seated for the 2-year term, the candidate with the third highest vote count will be seated for the 1-year term if they are qualified. This process will continue until the seat is filled. A majority of ballots cast is still required, but the majority will be based on completed ballots. In the event a majority is not reached for one or both seats, a run-off ballot will be held with all nominees not already seated and still able to fill any remaining seats.
    • Faculty that wish to serve on TeP must be available Friday mornings from 8 am--10 am for meetings.
    • Each Department and each School within a College can have at most one representative on the university wide Tenure and Promotion Committee.
    • Membership on the committee is restricted to the following structure: 2 faculty representatives from each of the five academic Colleges and 1 faculty representative from the non-classroom faculty.
    • The election is decided by a majority of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rules or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.

Alison Gardiner-Shires

Department: Sports Medicine

I am very grateful to be nominated to represent the CHS on the University-Wide TeP committee. I have served on the CHS Faculty and Student Success and Retention Program Committee since 2012. During this time, I created numerous professional development opportunities for our probationary faculty, to assist them in their pursuit of tenure and promotion. If elected to TeP, I look forward to continuing the hard work, valuable service and efforts of those who have served before me.

Nominator: Dr. Gardiner-Shires is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sports Medicine. She is a valued member of her department and college.

Deborah Mandel

Department: Nursing

It would be an honor to serve as the College of Health Sciences (CHS) representative to the Tenure and Promotion Committee. I am currently a member of the Nursing Department’s Tenure and Promotion Committee and recently received Tenure and Promotion. I recognize the importance of the Tenure and Promotion Committee as well as the responsibility and commitment needed by each committee representative to review Tenure and Promotion application binders and make decisions that can affect a colleague’s future. I am confident I can serve fairly and faithfully as a member of the Tenure and Promotion Committee and would appreciate the support of the CHS faculty. Thank you, Deborah Mandel Nursing Department
