Cheryl D. Gunter

Department: Communicative Disorders

I have represented the College of Health Sciences on this Committee in 2008-2010. I would be honored to be elected to continue to serve in 2010-2012. As a member of this Committee, I have attempted to accomplish three main ideals:

(1) I have aimed for careful, detailed review of relevant policies and procedures for tenure and promotion.

(2) I have aimed for systematic, detailed evaluation of applicants' qualifications with stated, relevant criteria.

(3) I have aimed for maintenance of consistent standards of excellence, with consideration of the individualized nature of faculty appointments and the need to evaluate individuals in comparison with relevant standards.

The members of this Committee, hand-in-hand with others involved in the faculty evaluation process at the departmental, college, and institutional levels, in a sense hold the academic future of the university in our hands. As our mission, we articulate the standards that constitute excellence in performance, and we affirm those faculty members who, by virtue of the quantity and the quality of their contributions to their disciplines and to the university, have attained that standard. The award of tenure and/or promotion to faculty members of excellence helps to ensure the richness of the academic experiences of our students, as well as the reputation of the institution among our various constituencies. I would be honored to be elected to continue to represent Health Sciences in this work.

If you would like to become more familiar with my own academic record, I invite you to visit my faculty profile in the Communicative Disorders web site at http://www.wcupa.edu/_ACADEMICS/HealthSciences/commdisorder/faculty. I believe that the quantity and quality of my own contributions and my balanced record would continue to enable me to successfully fulfill the awesome responsibilities that are at the heart of this Committee. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Brent Thompson

Department: Nursing

In my 25 years in academia I have strived to support my colleagues through participation at the department level in tenure and promotion, and at the University level in the Faculty Senate and as an APSCUF local representative. I believe the role of the TEP committee is to help faculty be the best academicians they can be. My years of experience, willingness to be mentor to junior faculty, and my efforts in promoting excellence at WCU make me qualified to serve. I would be honored to have your vote.
