Sandra Kerr

Department: Psychology

I am running for TeP because I am strongly committed to insuring that faculty are treated equitably in the tenure and promotion process. As a member of the committee, I bring my experiences as a classroom instructor, department chair, interim associate dean, and former chair of SaLe to my review of faculty binders and TeP committee discussions. My time on the committee thus far has strengthened my appreciation for the variety of approaches to teaching, scholarship, and service found across campus, especially as faculty work to balance the ever-increasing demands of our positions. Service on TeP has also helped to broaden my understanding of the tenure and promotion process, allowing me to further support faculty and insure that they are given fair consideration. I would greatly appreciate your support.

Maria Van Liew

Department: Languages and Cultures

Having accrued 17 years of experience at WCU in tandem with the university's consideration of our teaching goals, mentoring, advising, research agendas and service, I would like the opportunity to serve on a committee that reviews requests for recognition in these same areas. I have served as chair on numerous successful tenure-track searches at the departmental level, and I very much appreciate the collaborative spirit of these endeavors.

Anthony J. Nicastro

Department: Physics

Over the course of 25 years at WCU, I have garnered extensive experience with various faculty evaluation processes. They include: numerous Department faculty performance evaluation committees, two terms on the University's faculty development committee that evaluated scholarly proposals, service as Department Chair and the faculty performance evaluation duties that come with this position, service on the Tenure and Promotion Workshop Committee (PTW, two terms) helping applicants through the tenure and promotion process, and service on the Tenure and Promotion Committee (TeP, one term). These experiences have permitted me to appreciate the successes and challenges of all our facutly at WCU and have given me valuable perspectives in understanding the roles of teaching, scholarlship and service in their many forms at WCU. I look forward to continuing on TeP, and I ask for your support.

Daria Nikitina

Department: Geology and Astronomy

Tenure and promotion are two major steps in one's academic career. Though, I have no experience serving on the committee yet, as a mid career faculty, I feel that I have much to contribute to the comprehensive approach of assessing faculty work. I am interested in learning the process of faculty evaluation from non discipline-specific approach and about scholarly achievements, service and excellent work of WCU faculty who reach these milestones in their career.
