If there is only one elligible candidate for such a run-off, an approve/disapprove ballot will be used.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.

Steven L. Broitman

Department: Biology

Having previously served two terms on TeP I have decided to seek election to another term. I am certainly aware of the workload associated with this assignment but I also appreciate its importance and impact across campus. I’m confident that I will be able to execute these functions with a commitment to fairness to all faculty, from all departments coming up for tenure and promotion.

Timothy J. Brown

Department: Communication Studies

Dear colleagues: I am seeking a second (and final) term on TeP because serving on the committee has given me a greater appreciation for the multitude of approaches and contributions that faculty members make in teaching, scholarship, and service. As a committee member, I believe it is important to not only value faculty members as teacher/scholars but as individuals who are collegial and make positive contributions to the university. My broad university experience (co-founder of the university’s Faculty Mentoring Program, co-founder of the Multicultural Faculty Commission, former chair of the Council of Chairs, etc.), in addition to, my experience as a department chair, enable me to provide a well-balanced and reasonable evaluation of faculty. I appreciate your support of my candidacy.

Valerian DeSousa

Department: Anthropology and Sociology

I have served at the departmental level on evaluation and search committees. At the University level I have sat on CAPC and chair the board of the Frederick Douglass Insitute. I would like to continue to serve the University through TeP where I will bring a balanced position to the evaluation process. Thanks in anticipation for your support.

Bob Gallop

Department: Mathematics

This would be a great opportunity to get a further appreciation of the quality work and teaching be done by our faculty across the university. I've served as a grant reviewer at both NIH and NIDA and have been exposed to many diverse areas of research, so I believe I can grasp the variety of activities.

Victoria Tischio

Department: English

I've been chair of the English department for the last three years and have served in a variety of other leadership positions at WCU since starting here in 1998, including coordinating the interdisciplinary FIG/Learning Community program and the Writing Center. At this juncture in my career, I would like to bring what I have learned to the Tenure and Promotion committee, where my experiences serving in departmental and campus-wide interdisciplinary leadership positions will help inform my participation in the tenure and promotion process.
