Department: University Libraries

Dear Colleagues, I initially decided not to run for Chair because of other responsibilities, like TeP. After reconsideration, I’m running for the same reason that all of us do service work beyond the requirements for tenure and promotion: because I want to help. I think the main job of a Chair is to help the department figure out where it wants to go, then help it get there. That having been said, I think it’s important that we continue to define our identity as librarians and teachers; find new ways to make connections with students, like partnering in research and expanding internship or practicum opportunities; and find out how to work with each other. For that last one, I’d like to apply some of what I’ve learned leading group drumming activities: ask questions, try to listen to everybody, and a steady beat keeps the group together. Thank you for considering my nomination.
