Thomas Legg

Department: History

I am an associate professor of history, recently beginning my second decade at WCU. I have a wide-ranging set of experiences, including four years as Chair of the History Department, a term on CAPC, multiple years as voting member of CPE, and numerous other campus wide committees. These experiences have helped me to develop an understanding of the complexities of WCU and I would serve on this search committee with the needs of faculty and students first and foremost.

Joel M. Ressner

Department: Chemistry

I have been a faculty member at WCU for 25 years. During this time I have served on CAPC (including four terms as Chair), an Advising Task Force, a Middle States review committee, a delegate to the APSCUF State Legislative Assembly, and a member of the local APSCUF Executive Committee, among other committees. I served on the search committee for the Associate Provost as well as on faculty search committees. I have been involved in facilities renovation (Schmucker Science Center South) and through the open comment process have added my two cents to campus-wide facilities issues with special emphasis on accommodating students with physical disabilities (an issue resulting from two months spent trying to navigate WCU in a wheelchair).

While the job description for the Associate Vice President for Academic Administration does not specifically mention curriculum, the facilities areas in which this person will have influence impact the faculty’s ability to deliver the curriculum effectively and efficiently. My purpose on this search committee would be, in effect, to seek and promote candidates who can “look out for” curriculum in fulfilling their employment responsibilities.

Department: Physics

Matthew Waite is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics. He has been a member of the Physics Department since 2001. He currently serves on the CAS Recruitment Committee and has been the Physics representative to the UAAC. He looks forward to serving the University in a broader context through service on the AVPAA search committee.

Joan Woolfrey

Department: Philosophy

As a first term chair (of the Philosophy Department) and with my experience serving on CAPC, I have been maturing in my understanding of how I relate to the University, to my College and to my Department. I advocate for my Department and my College wherever I can. I am committed to West Chester University as a whole. I care deeply that quality education remain a priority even while state appropriations decline. I believe I would be a strong advocate on this committee, and vocal and thoughtful representative for my College.
