Curry Stephenson Malott

Department: Professional and Secondary Education

I am running to be an Alternate State Delegate because I believe it is my responsibility as a state education worker to be actively involved in my union in as many ways as possible. That is, it is my duty to join my fellow workers in defense of our class interests of which management is fundamentally opposed. Workers have a common class interest with their fellow workers against the managerial class who are charged with serving the interests of the capitalist class. Our security is only as strong as our union. Situated in the context of the current era of union-busting, neoliberal policies, it is imperative that union members actively support the union and advance a program of class consciousness among our co-workers because those sitting on the other side of the bargaining table are extremely class conscious. Serving as an Alternate State Delegate (and eventually a State Delegate) will help me further develop my own understanding of the political landscape in which my union operates, which will assist me in becoming a more effective union organizer and defender.
