Jim Brenner

Department: Health

Please accept and consider my nomination for the WCU campus representative to the PASSHE Interim Faculty Council (IFC). I am currently Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Health and have been a faculty member at WCU for the past 17 years. I served a two year term as WCU Faculty Senate President from 2015 – 2017, and I still serve as an elected Faculty Senator with an ex officio role on the Executive Committee. I believe my commitment to transparency, advocacy, and experience participating in shared governance make me qualified to serve on this State System council. I would be honored to represent all WCU faculty in this capacity. Thank you.

Chris Stangl

Department: Political Science

If elected to represent West Chester on the Interim Faculty Council, I will draw on a broad wealth of experience. I have been very active with APSCUF throughout my time at WCU. I just concluded a four-year run as Grievance Chair, which followed six years as Legislative Chair. I have served on the Executive Committee and Meet & Discuss and, as a delegate, have attended at least 25 State Delegate Assemblies.

I have served West Chester in several other capacities as well. I recently finished a three-year term on the Budget Review Committee. This was invaluable experience as members are able to hear directly from administrators and deepen our understanding of the challenges WCU faces. That said, the biggest takeaway was an appreciation of WCU’s considered efforts at maintaining a sound financial position to best prepare us to meet upcoming challenges.

I transitioned off of the BRC in order to serve as a tri-chair for Standard VII—Governance, Leadership, and Administration—in WCU’s Middles States re-accreditation efforts. I was already looking forward to a campus-wide conversation with as many colleagues as possible in this capacity. If elected to the IFC, I hope to bring additional perspective to these conversations, and I will dedicate myself to representing WCU to the best of my ability in what is clearly a crucial moment.

I appreciate your consideration.

Department: Public Policy & Administration

Hello, colleagues. I am writing to request your support as nominee for the State System Interim Faculty Council. I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Policy and Administration and have been a faculty member with WCU since 2010. I believe that my combination of education, research and professional experience have prepared me to contribute in a meaningful way to the proposed State System Interim Faculty Council. First and foremost, I am a member of the WCU and State System communities with a genuine interest in both the processes and products of our system of shared governance. I am a proud member of APSCUF and have served in a variety of roles at WCU, including Department Chair, Graduate Coordinator, Special Assistant to the Dean for Assessment, Chair of the University Assessment Advisory Committee, and member of Graduate CAPC. These local experiences, coupled with my disciplinary focus on systems of collaborative governance in the arenas of public policy and administration, have afforded me a unique perspective on our state system governance issues. I am excited by the opportunity to share this perspective at the local and state level and to work collaboratively toward the shared interests of faculty, students and administration.
