Rules for the Election
David BoltonDepartment: Educational Foundations and Policy Studi I've been a contributing member of the Faculty Senate since 2015. My primary focus in my work with the Senate has been in the area of the role of research at the university, which is my passion. As the university has been growing and changing, this issue has increased in importance. Finding a balance between teaching, research, and service is important. If research is expected, it is also critical that the university provide the resources to allow the faculty members to do it. In addition to being involved in the research subcommittee, I have also been actively involved in the discussions and in the activities of the Senate. The Senate is a critical body in defining the culture of the University. I'm very much looking forward to continuing my work with the Senate, and would be grateful for your consideration. Thank you! Orkideh MohajeriDepartment: Educational Leadership & HiEd Admin I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Higher Education Administration. I have been serving as a proxy for Faculty Senate since 2019 and have been able to observe how this body helps guide the institution during times of crisis (COVID-19) and in more stable times. I am dedicated to supporting faculty in their various roles at WCU, and I see Faculty Senate as an important space for developing faculty voice in shared governance. Serving on Senate will afford me opportunities to collaborate with and learn from others across the institution. Thank you for considering me for this service. Julie TennilleDepartment: Graduate Social Work I started serving on Senate as Proxy in 2015, then a Senator, Liaison from the LGBTQIA+ University Caucus to Senate, Senate Exec for the last several years, most recently as Corresponding Secretary. In this time, I've been an advocate for faculty and various stakeholders, bringing concerns to Exec and appreciating and learning from other colleagues. I don't need to say that, in this higher-ed landscape, shared governance is more important than ever. It would be an honor to continue this work. Grateful for your consideration! Heather WaymouthDepartment: Literacy I am an assistant professor in the Literacy Department. I currently serve as the Literacy Department Assessment Coordinator and as a Departmental Representative for APSCUF, among other service roles. Serving as an assessment coordinator has helped me understand the creativity needed to meet the varied, and sometimes contradictory, expectations of various governing/accrediting bodies while maintaining a superior academic program and faculty autonomy. Through my interactions with APSCUF, I have learned a great deal regarding how the university functions. I feel this has prepared me to step into a shared governance role on Faculty Senate. My scholarship and teaching focus on equitable engagement across content areas/disciplines. Should I be elected, this dedication to equity will be carried forth into faculty senate service as well, both for students and faculty. Thank you for your consideration!
