Brian Bowen

Department: Mathematics

My name is Brian Bowen, I am in my second year as an assistant professor in the mathematics department. I have a PhD from the University of Delaware in the area of mathematics education. My teaching focus at West Chester University is on mathematics education where I work with elementary and middle school pre and in-service teachers. Prior to my work at West Chester University I taught and was an administrator on the k-12 level in the Philadelphia area. I believe strongly in the need to serve the university community and have done so within the mathematics department in many ways including serving on the elections committee and participating on a new faculty search. I would like to continue serving the university as a whole by contributing as a member of the faculty senate. I appreciate your consideration.

Ellie Brown

Department: Psychology

Dear Colleagues,

I would be honored to continue to serve as your representative on the Faculty Senate. I am now the Senate Vice President and if I am elected to another term on Senate, I will be nominated to serve as Senate President. As faculty, we are currently confronted with key challenges, including major changes to public higher education as we know it. It will be critical for the next Senate President to hit the ground running and work closely with other faculty leaders as well as administrators to advocate effectively for the best interests of faculty and students. My experience as Senate Vice President and the relationships I have built with campus leaders, including those in APSCUF, CAPC, TeP, and the Multicultural Faculty Commission, make me well suited to serve as the next Senate President.

During the past few years, the Senate Executive Committee has guided the Senate to focus on issues of campus climate. We have taken on issues ranging from the Governor’s proposed budget to diversity concerns affecting our campus. Among other things, I have served as Chair of the Faculty Senate Student Welfare Committee and have worked with stakeholders across campus to create an ally-type training program to raise awareness about student emotions. This spring, the program our committee created, called WCU Campus Allies Regarding Emotions of Students or WCU CARES, will be adopted by the Counseling Center, which will offer trainings across campus starting in the fall.

I am a strong advocate for faculty and students and will continue to work diligently to represent our interests. It is important to me that all voices are heard, and I plan to reach out to all constituents and think collaboratively about how we can work for the best future possible for faculty, students, and WCU as a whole. I would like the opportunity to serve another term on Faculty Senate and, if elected, to serve as Senate President. I would greatly appreciate your support.

Sincerely yours,

Ellie

Marc Gagne

Department: Geology & Astronomy

I have been attending Faculty Senate meetings for two years, one year as a proxy member, because I believe that Faculty Senate provides an open forum for faculty from across campus to discuss issues that are important to students and faculty. I believe that Faculty Senate complements other faculty committees like CAPC and the Council of Chairs. I was chair of the Department of Geology & Astronomy from 2006-2011, chair of the Council of Chairs in 2009-2010, was a member of the Middle States Self Study Steering Committee from 2009-2011, and chair of its Faculty Workgroup. I also currently serve on the University Academic Advising Committee. I believe these experiences would help me as a Faculty Senator, and I welcome the opportunity to serve the faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences.
