David Bolton

Department: Educational Foundations and Policy Studi

I've been a contributing member of the Faculty Senate since 2015. My primary focus in my work with the Senate has been in the area of the role of research at the university, which is my passion. As the university has been growing and changing, this issue has increased in importance. Finding a balance between teaching, research, and service is important. If research is expected, it is also critical that the university provide the resources to allow the faculty members to do it.

In addition to being involved in the research subcommittee, I have also been actively involved in the discussions and in the activities of the Senate.

The Senate is a critical body in defining the culture of the University. I'm very much looking forward to continuing my work with the Senate, and would be grateful for your consideration. Thank you!

Marcos Campillo-Fenoll

Department: Languages and Cultures

Dear colleagues, I appreciate your consideration for my nomination as At-large Representative in the Faculty Senate. I was an At-large Representative during the 20 13-2016 period (and was a member of the Faculty Welfare and Ethics Committee), and I look forward to stepping back in this important representation and advocacy position. Since I left the Senate, I have committed my service to other relevant university tasks, such as directing (and then co-directing) the Latin American and Latino/a Studies program, working as a member of the Latino Communities Conference, participating in the University Faculty Mentoring program as senior mentor, being a member of the University Committee for Advising Excellence (Assessment subcommittee), and many other college (and across colleges) and departmental service tasks I volunteer for. I appreciate your support to represent the university faculty in the Senate.

Rick Howard

Department: Kinesiology- College of Health Sciences

I am currently serving as a proxy to The Faculty Senate. I regularly attend the monthly meetings and have been called upon several times to serve as a proxy. I would love to be elected to The Faculty Senate as an At-Large Representative to take on an even greater role in the Faculty Senate.

Premalatha Junius

Department: Mathematics

It has been a privilege to serve on Faculty Senate for several years and most recently as an at large member. I have learned much from my colleagues, especially from those on the Research and Creative Activity Committee that I was a part of. In the new term, I hope to continue to serve in more areas of our University that Senate contributes to. So far I have helped in only two areas.

Michelle Kaulback

Department: Nursing

I am seeking a seat on Faculty Senate as an At-large Representative. I have served as a proxy on Faculty Senate for the past three years and have enjoyed the great work of Faculty Senate. I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing since 2017 and I enjoy being involved in service within my department, college and the university. Please vote for me so I can continue in the work of the Faculty Senate and the WCU educational community.

Daris McInnis

Department: Literacy

Greetings, colleagues. I'm Daris McInnis, currently in my third year as an assistant professor in the Literacy Department. My research is on literacy, families, racial literacy, and reading instruction. My instructional focus is teaching undergraduate courses on reading and writing instruction, as well as equity and diversity in K-12 schools. Previously, at the university level, I've been involved with the Sustainability Council and currently serve a second term on the Faculty Awards and Recognition committee. Within the College of Education and Social Work, I've contributed to the diversity committee, served on the Student Scholarship Committee, and co-founded (with Dr. Tiffany Bennett) the Future Teachers United organization. Additionally, I've been active in various departmental roles, particularly in supporting the assessment committee and overseeing our Program Advisory Council. Running for WCUPA Faculty Senate, I aim to represent junior faculty and other faculty from marginalized backgrounds, striving to enhance diversity in student and faculty recruitment while improving outcomes for underrepresented minority students.

Esther Smidt

Department: Languages and Cultures

I would love to continue serving in the Faculty Senate and would appreciate your support. I was the CAH Representative from 2020-2024. I represented Faculty Senate in the Search Committee for the Associate Provost for Learning and Teaching Innovation in 2022 where we hired Naomie Nyanungo.

Julie Tennille

Department: Graduate Social Work

I have served on Faculty Senate since 2015, currently serving on the Senate Executive Committee as Corresponding Secretary and as the Senate Liaison to the LGBTQIA+ Caucus. I have been fortunate to develop strong relationships across the university in other roles such as co-chairing the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Task Force and developing a vibrant collaboration with the theater department. Co-chairing of the IPE task force (including 8 other disciplines), running a large grant with students from MSW, PsyD, and MEd School Counseling and CESW and CSM along with my collaboration with the theater department has afforded me a broad knowledge of WCU at a deep level. My experience on Senate with incredibly talented colleagues has not only helped me as a professor, it has given me insight into where I can devote time and energy to support the entire university. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work on Senate and hold the value of shared governance in high esteem. I have the belief that, collectively we are a much stronger institution, with constant participation, advocacy, and good faith communication. Thank you for your consideration.
