David Bolton

Department: Educational Foundations and Policy Studi

I've been a contributing member of the Faculty Senate since 2015. My primary focus in my work with the Senate has been in the area of the role of research at the university, which is my passion. As the university has been growing and changing, this issue has increased in importance. Finding a balance between teaching, research, and service is important. If research is expected, it is also critical that the university provide the resources to allow the faculty members to do it.

In addition to being involved in the research subcommittee, I have also been actively involved in the discussions and in the activities of the Senate.

The Senate is a critical body in defining the culture of the University. I'm very much looking forward to continuing my work with the Senate, and would be grateful for your consideration. Thank you!

Michele P. Bratina

Department: Criminal Justice

Since 2016, I have served the University on the Curriculum and Academic Policies Council (CAPC), General Education Assessment Committee – Interdisciplinary (I) Course Assessment, the University Writing Council (UWC) Advisory Board, Advisor for National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on Campus Student Organization; the College of Business and Public Management on the Interdisciplinary, Strategic Plan, and International Committees; the Department of Criminal Justice, as New Faculty Search Committee member, Co-Editor of the Alumni Newsletter, Website liaison, and as current Advisor for Nu Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. I am also engaged in service with the state as a member of the PA Statewide Forensic Interagency Task Force (FITF), and in the local community, through my membership on the Chester County Police Crisis Intervention Team Steering and Curriculum Committees. These various opportunities have helped to prepare me to serve on the Faculty Senate. I view my candidacy as an opportunity to support the faculty, students, and the university. Faculty Senate is an important forum, and I am committed to serve effectively. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to immerse myself in work that involves promoting growth and development of faculty and students, and I hope that you will consider voting for me. Thank you!

Hello Colleagues - it has been my privilege to serve on the Faculty Senate for the past several years, and I would welcome the opportunity to continue representing my colleagues in the future. Laquana Cooke

Department: English

Colleagues, it would be an honor and joyful privilege to return to Faculty Senate as the an At-large Representative. As a 5th year Assistant Professor of English, I am concluding my term as Faculty Senate At-Large Representative. I have learned and grown tremendously while voting on large institutional changes/issues that impact our WCU community. During my tenure as an At-Large Representative, I sit on the Research-Creative activities subcommittee, where our team often communicate with Administrators to talk about issues/opportunities for faculty research. Those early and recent conversations are central to WCU’s R2 reclassification process. Reversibly, this experience has empowered me as a leader on other department, college, and university-wide committees. I hold elected board positions on committees that share the same institutional goals in fostering growth and development of faculty and students: e.g., Digital Humanities and New Media minor Executive Committee and Rustin Urban Community Change Axis (RUCCAS) major Advisory Board are two boards that are trailblazing curricular models for the development of media and community centered research opportunities for students and teachers. In serving as Faculty Senate At-large Representative, I will continue to uphold the mission of Faculty Senate and build on the important work in the boardroom and outside.

Yuhong He

Department: Counseling and Psychological Services

As a non-classroom faculty member who is currently serving as a proxy, I am excited about the opportunity to become a member of the Faculty Senate and more involved in the shared governance of WCU. I hope to contribute to the Faculty Senate my knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact the well-being of the individuals and groups of our campus community as a psychologist from the Counseling and Psychological Services. I also wish to help create positive changes in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion at WCU.

Premalatha Junius

Department: Mathematics

Serving my first term as a senate member for the last three years has helped me learn from my colleagues; kept me involved; and informed about current issues and challenges at our university. I am part of a sub-group (faculty senate research and creative activities) and the senate representative for CAPC Diverse Communities Task force: I would like the opportunity to continue my involvement in these two areas – areas that I am passionate about. My background is mostly in mathematics and physics. I try to look at questions and problems from various angles. Having lived and worked with 50 nationalities in a small mountain town during the early part of my life, I am interested in West Chester's ties with the other parts of the world.

Simon Ruchti

Department: Philosophy

I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve on Faculty Senate. Since arriving at WCU in 2007, I have been actively engaged in service across the campus. Whether through my work on CAPC, my time as chair of Women's and Gender Studies, my work with Public Safety, or my consistent participation in campus life, I have always worked for equity and justice for all members of the WCU community. I would like the opportunity to focus my energy and experience on advocating for faculty, and so I am asking for your vote.

Department: History

I am an Assistant Professor in the History Department, and I currently serve as a College of Arts and Humanities Representative to the Faculty Senate. I started on Faculty Senate during the 2012-13 academic year as one of the Temporary Faculty representatives. After being converted to tenure track in 2013, I served as an At-Large Representative from 2013 to 2018. In 2018 I was elected as a College of Arts and Humanities Representative.

During my time as a senator, I have served as a member of the Student Welfare Committee and chair of the Faculty Welfare and Ethics Committee. In 2017, I was one of the two Faculty Senate representatives to the committee that planned President Fiorentino's inauguration. I currently serve as the Faculty Senate representative to the Strategic Transportation and Parking Task Force and was the College of Arts and Humanities Representative on the Carnegie R2 Reclassification Taskforce.

I have enjoyed working with the members of the Faculty Senate on many important issues and would like the opportunity to continue serving. I would appreciate your vote. Thank you.

As a member of Faculty Senate my contribution could be a varied perspective on diversity and inclusion.
