Rules for the Election
Rachel BannerDepartment: English I joined the WCU English department as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in 2013. Since then I have been involved with key committees in our 70+ person department, most recently serving on the department’s Executive Committee. My service work has only affirmed my deeply held belief in the power and importance of shared governance, and along the way I have discovered a genuine affinity for the often painstaking labor involved with this type of service. If elected, I would bring a strong organizational skill-set and a commitment to collaborative problem solving to the position. I would work to support and further strengthen the already robust intellectual and social lives of all WCU community members. Michael BurnsDepartment: English I joined the English department as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in 2013. I have served on the department’s Executive Committee, and I was elected to serve as an APSCUF departmental representative. I am my department's director for the Academic Development Program, and I serve on the board for the Frederick Douglass Institute. In all areas of my involvement, I look to facilitate communication between individuals and maximize the use of campus resources. If elected, I will use my position to forward collaboration and work toward solutions to the betterment of the whole WCU community. Angela LaveryDepartment: Graduate Social Work Thank you for the opportunity to submit my name for the nomination to a faculty senate position. I joined WCU in August of 2015 as a new tenure track Assistant Professor of the Graduate Social Work Department in the new College of Education and Social Work. Most recently I have begun an additional role as graduate coordinator of the interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Gerontology. As a faculty senate member, I will be dedicated to supporting the growth of a healthy campus climate for students and faculty. I wish to specifically contribute my collaborative professional skill set from previous board of director and task force work experiences to either the faculty or student welfare committees. I strongly believe that this important work of the senate will continue to enhance an inclusive and diverse community that positively contributes to the students’ learning outcomes and the faculty’s professional development. I am excited about the opportunity to build more relationships across departments in order to promote the welfare of students and all faculty. I hope to join you in those efforts. Barbara Harrison McPhersonDepartment: Nursing I am running for the Faculty Senate At large Representative seat because of my commitment to serving the faculty at West Chester University. I plan to advocate for fair institutional policies affecting the welfare of faculty, students, and the University climate. Michelle WadeDepartment: Public Policy and Administration Please consider supporting me for Faculty Senate. I would welcome the opportunity to represent faculty in this forum for shared governance. In particular, I am interested in advocating for policies that promote diversity, accountability, and transparency on campus. Thank you for your consideration.
