Kathryn Alessandria

Department: Counselor Education

I would like to continue serving on the Faculty Senate. I have been a Senator for the past 6 years. Most recently, I have been heavily involved with the Student Welfare Committee's efforts to raise awareness of mental health issues on campus and am looking forward to co-facilitating the pilot of the new WCU CARES program in March. Remaining on the Senate will allow me to see this project through its implementation phase.

Cynthia S. Haggard

Department: PSED

The faculty senate is moving in some exciting new directions and I would like to be a part of it. Having served as president of the senate and now on the executive committee I think that I have a lot to contribute. I feel that the senate needs a combination of newer faculty with fresh ideas and seasoned faculty with institutional history to be effective.

I hope to serve a second term as an at-large Faculty Senate member in order to continue my commitment to faculty professional development and the art of teaching and mentoring. I am certain my enthusiasm, expertise, and connection to other university-wide committees will contribute to the experienced leadership at the university.

Tanya Morgan

Department: Health

I have served as a Faculty Senator for six years and I would like to continue my service in this capacity. As an active member of Faculty Senate, I was elected and served on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee for the past two years. In addition, I currently sit on the Student Welfare committee and I have worked in the past on the Faculty Mentoring Committee which had its roots in Faculty Senate. I would appreciate your support so I can continue my work in these areas and others. Thanks!

Viorel Nitica

Department: Mathematics

I shall be very happy to be part of the Faculty Senate.

I am at West Chester for more than 8 years and I believe that I can contribute due to my teaching and research experience. As service experience, I was chair of Faculty Grant Development Committee.

Thank you very much for your vote.

Matthew Pierlott

Department: Philosophy

I am very interested in serving on the Faculty Senate in some capacity. I especially would like to sit on the Ethics Committee (a natural fit, given my focus on ethics and its application), or either the Faculty Welfare or Student Welfare committees. I have served on the CASSDA committee and the New Faculty Orientation committee, as well as fulfilling many departmental service roles in the areas of assessment, curriculum, searches and advising. I believe I can be a strong advocate for faculty concerns and look forward to the experience of serving on the Senate. I appreciate your vote. Thanks.

Israel Sanz-Sanchez

Department: Languages and Cultures

As a new faculty member at WCU, I am eager to serve the academic community by becoming a Faculty Senate member. During my time at WCU, I have already had the chance to familiarize myself with the importance of the faculty-administration interface in determining the everyday academic life of our institution. Since the Faculty Senate is the forum where the university-wide policies relevant to this interface are proposed and debated, I envision my membership in it as a significant contribution to the future of WCU. My activity in the Senate will particuarly focus on supporting iniatives that strengthen our visibility in the region, the intellectual and social agency of our students, the collaboration between faculty and students in producing knowledge, and the social outreach sphere of WCU. I will also be an advocate for the needs and demands of the faculty in the faculty-administration dialogue.

Van Stiefel

Department: Music Theory

I wish to serve another term on West Chester University's Faculty Senate. I have served on the Elections Committee since the beginning of my term and am presently chair of both the Elections Committee and the ByLaws Committee. The Senate is presently working to clarify its role in the life of the campus and I have enjoyed that process very much. I was responsible for drafting a new mission statement for the Senate which was recently adopted; and I plan to begin revising the Senate's constitution in coming months. I would very much like another term to see this process to completion. Thank you!
