Lynne Cooke

Department: English

I an Assistant Professor in the English Department where I teach business and technical writing. Although I am new to WCU, I have two years of experience as an active member of the Faculty Senate at another university. I have been, and will continue to be, a strong faculty advocate who is committed to formulating, implementing, and reviewing institutional policy that benefits WCU faculty and students.

Eli DeHope

Department: Undergraduate Social Work

I welcome your support in this nomination to Faculty Senate. I have served on the Senate for the past six years, recently as the Secretary and currently as the Vice President. I am fully committed to the Faculty Senate and would like an opportunity to continue work in progress on this Senate.

For the past eight years I have been committed to actively serving the WCU community; serving on Service Learning and LGBTQ Committees, Women's Studies and Social Equity Advisory Boards as well as a number of task forces that I have been asked in which to participate. I have also served as interim chair of my department. I believe that these experiences would allow me to continue to contribute to Faculty Senate and I seek your support to try to do so.

Mary Beth Gilboy

Department: Health

I would welcome your support for the position of Faculty Senate At-large Representative. By serving on the Faculty Senate, I will work to contribute on issues and policies which are important to the students and faculty at West Chester University. Prior to this first year as a tenure-track faculty in the Department of Health at WCU, I was an active member of various committees as a faculty and student advocate at another college. It would be an honor to work with other faculty members on the Faculty Senate at WCU.

Gabrielle Halko

Department: English

I value the many opportunities to create community that the University setting provides and would work to strengthen inclusiveness and quality of life for faculty, students, and staff. In my role as student advisor, I’ve become increasingly aware of how the various pieces of the University machine work together. I’ve served on numerous department committees, both at WCU and at a previous university, and am involved in PASSHE service as well. While I am relatively new to West Chester, I have a longstanding commitment to service and genuinely enjoy the committee process.

Within the Department of Theatre and Dance, I have developed an academic intensive study program with Oxford University as well as other faculty and student initiatives. I would welcome the opportunity to use this experience on behalf of the entire University community through service on the Faculty Senate. Thanks.

Bruce Norris

Department: Educational Development

I welcome the opportunity to become actively involved in the faculty senate. I have been active in several campus activities associated with strategic planning, accreditation and academic advising. I expect to be an advocate for all faculty interests and would represent the unique interests of the non-classroom faculty with enthusiasm.

Julian Onderdonk

Department: Music History

I have served for six years (two terms) on the senate and have been a member of the executive committee for two years (currently I am Corresponding Secretary). Senate keeps faculty connected to the University at large, and provides a wonderful clearing-house for ideas about how to improve campus and curricular life. As such, senate performs an important advising function--disseminating information to non-senate faculty and recommending improvements to the administration. It is my privilege to be a part of a body that brings so much of WCU together, and I hope I may continue to benefit from this contact by extending my service for the next three years.

Matthew Pierlott

Department: Philosophy

As an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department, I have served on a number of my department's committees (including being the Assessment Coordinator), and advised the department's student club. While I also am a member of the New Faculty Orientation committee, I would like to extend more service to my college and the university, and think this is an excellent opportunity. I believe I can advocate strongly on behalf of faculty and student interests with regard to institutional policies. I would appreciate your support for a position on the Faculty Senate. Thank you.

David Siegel

Department: Graduate Social Work

I have been a senior faculty member of the social work departments for 17 years. In this role I have frequently advocated in behalf of quality affordable and accessible education particularly in the graduate programs. Furthermore, I have taken a lead role in researching social justice issues as Principal Investigator of the West Chester University TANf project, and my writings on improving the neighborhood environments and neighborhood development under welfare reform. In the last year I have three publications related to welfare reform, which have been a crucial part of the welfare reform debate. In my seventeen years, I have assumed almost every role possible except being a member of Faculty Senate with my University colleagues. A vote for me is a vote for greater access to diverse groups, in accord with the function of a great public University. When I ran the TANF project, our staff felt like the United Nations, because of our diversty in nationality, ethnicity and race. Thus, we were able to gain interviews no one else could (or perhaps wanted). We need to upgrade our writing programs and programs for the disabled and continue our excellent programs on cultural diversity. Perhaps, some improved transportation to the city and the suburbs, with a state sponsored University bus line, would enable us to be more responsive to our mission. Vote for me and social justice.

Paul K. Smith

Department: Kinesiology

I am seeking your support for an at-large senate seat that I have held for several terms. As a past-president and committee leader, I have been seen and overseen the Faculty Senate transform in many ways to address the needs of the faculty of WCU. Please support me in this quest. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Liz Staruch

Department: Theatre and Dance

I believe any community, especially an educational one, can grow through communication and attentiveness to listening and learning about one another. I'm interested in learning more about this campus and being a part of the tremendous growth that we're seeing now and will continue to see in the coming years. I bring with me experience in working within arts organizations in Philly, NC, and OH and I like the process of collaboration.
