Rules for the Election
Tina AlessandriaDepartment: Counseling & Educational Psychology I have enjoyed my first term on Faculty Senate and hope to continue my service. The Senate has been working hard to respond to faculty concerns and I would like to continue to represent you to this group. Nadine BeanDepartment: Graduate Social Work I have served two terms on the Faculty Senate and have been on the executive committee for four years now. I am currently vice president of the Senate. I love working with the Faculty Senate and would like to continue my work within it. I feel that my most important contribution has been in helping to develop the new, university wide committee, the Faculty Mentoring Committee which will begin its work in earnest in the 07/08 academic year. I am very proud to have worked closely with Lauri Hyers and Tim Brown to bring this committee to fruition and hope that the committee will provide much needed services to new and continuing faculty. Michael P. BoyleDepartment: Communication Studies As a new faculty member I look forward to getting more involved and making a contribution to WCU at the University level. Kathryn ChilcoteDepartment: Applied Music I would very much enjoy continuing serving on the Faculty Senate. The issues that are discussed impact all faculty members, and it is important to be able to carry back information to all members of the School of Music community. Thank you. Kathryn Chilcote, DMA Assoc. Prof. of Music (Voice) Carl CranmerDepartment: CVPA As a member of the faculty senate, I would like to keep my colleagues informed of University issues, meet new colleagues, and become a part of a university-wide organization outside the school of music. Cynthia S. HaggardDepartment: Professional and Secondary Education I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue working with the faculty senate. We have begun addresing many issues and I would like to be a part of the end results. thank you. Stacie MetzDepartment: Health I am fervently committed to student academic and professional development and to the quality improvement of higher education across the university. A critical aspect of quality improvement is assessment and evaluation; therefore, my professional research and evaluation accomplishments uniquely qualify me for an at-large seat on the Faculty Senate and future committees such as Student Welfare and Curriculum & Research. I am certain my credentials and enthusiasm will insurmountably contribute to the wealth of experienced leadership at the university. Tanya J. MorganDepartment: Health I have served as a faculty senator for one term and prior to the beginning of my term, I served for several faculty members as a proxy. I am dedicated to the mission of faculty senate and I would like to continue my service to the university by putting my name forward for election to a second term. Denise M. PolkDepartment: Communication Studies In order for the Senate to function effectively, all involved groups and individuals must participate responsibly. It is my intention to uphold this principle by actively and thoughtfully participating in the Senate meetings. As a member of the senate, I will do my part to initiate, consider, and implement policy within the scope of the Senate's authority. As a Senate representative, I would do my best to make recommendations on matters pertaining to University faculty regarding identifying needs, prompting policy change, and other such matters. Kimberly ReighleyDepartment: Applied Music Now in my second year as the full time flute professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, I would welcome the opportunity to "spread my wings" and represent my colleagues as a member of the Faculty Senate. Van StiefelDepartment: Music Theory and Composition As a new member of the faculty, I would be very happy to serve the university as a member of the Faculty Senate. I have experience serving on the boards of arts organizations and would appreciate the opportunity to participate in university governance at this level. Donna WandryDepartment: Early Childhood and Special Education The concept of Faculty Senate embodies a true form of participatory governance in several ways: (1) it allows a university-wide discourse on matters that affect the quality of the academic community, (2) it creates the representational, systemic, and multidisplinary voice needed to effectively discuss policy with administrative and union entities, and (3) it supports mutual understanding of individual disciplines as well as their integral roles within the greater university community. As a faculty member of seven years, I have sought to be involved, informed, and active within that community, and I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to do so through membership in the Senate.
