Dan BaerDepartment: Sports Medicine I have been a faculty member in the Department of Sports Medicine since 2009, and I am excited by the opportunity to serve on the Faculty Mentoring Committee. I currently have academic, clinical, and administrative responsibilities within the Sports Medicine Department, and mentorship plays a critical role in each of these areas. I've been involved with the Faculty Mentoring Committee as a mentee, and more recently as a mentor, and I look forward to the opportunity to participate in the organization and implementation of the faculty mentorship program. Thank you for your consideration. Nancy BarkerDepartment: Nursing When I arrived at WCU in 2016 I was fortunate to find many fantastic mentors across the campus. I would like to return the favor and serve as a resource to new faculty onboarding at WCU. I also have a great interest in this topic as it is currently one of my research interests. I have participated in new faculty orientation, mentored new faculty in my department as a course leader and as assistant department chair. My educational background includes an EdD in Higher Education with a focus on faculty support. Thank you for considering me for this role. Johnna CapitanoDepartment: Management When I began at WCU in 2016, I was matched during New Faculty Orientation with Merry Perry from the English department as my mentor. I could not have asked for a better mentor. The faculty mentoring program has been invaluable to me during my six years here. Now that I am tenured, I would like to pay it forward and help continue the strong tradition of faculty mentoring here at WCU. My research in newcomer onboarding prompted me to join the New Faculty Orientation committee, which I have served on for six years. If elected, I would work to be a bridge between the Faculty Mentoring Committee and the NFO, helping new faculty connect with mentors. Thomas HaugheyDepartment: Theatre and Dance Hello everyone. I will start by letting you all know how important the work of this committee is for faculty that use it. I would not be here without my mentor. I have been a mentee, a mentor, coordinator and co-chair of this committee and I would like to continue doing this valuable work. Thank you for your consideration. Linda StevensonDepartment: Political Science After nearly two decades at WCU, based in the Political Science Department, with ties in several interdisciplinary, diversity and equity areas of study, including Women's and Gender Studies, Latino/x Studies, and Global Studies, I have many experiences to share with faculty. I am completing 2 years as the Faculty Associate for the Center for Civic Engagement and Social Impact, which supports faculty and students doing service-learning in classes, and community engagement research and activities, which can also be useful for others. Finally, I am active in Study Abroad - in Germany this year, but previously in Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, so can aid faculty seeking to teach internationally - on-campus, around the corner, or abroad.
