Department: Nutrition

As an individual committed to excellence in learning and teaching, I look forward to an opportunity to continue to serve on CELT. I have served on CELT for the past three years and I have thoroughly enjoyed co-facilitating some of the book clubs, reviewing CELT proposals, and planning CELT events. I especially enjoy supporting my colleagues in carrying out best practices of teaching and learning. It would be an honor to continue my service on this committee.

Department: Health

Thank you for taking the time to read my Statement for the CHS Representative for the Committee for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.

I am passionate about serving our students in the classroom through delivering Best Practices in teaching. My goal is to be a faculty advocate for access to trainings and workshops to enhance pedagogy skills. Specifically, workshops that focus on redesigning classroom delivery and materials that enhances diversity, inclusion, and equity for our students. Improving teaching skills may also result in retaining our students in an era of declining enrollments. This may also grow the pipeline for students entering our graduate programs at WCU.

Technology is also critical to the delivering a high-value classroom experience for our students. I would advocate for faculty access to workshops that provide practical experiences in using the latest classroom (in-person and online) technology tools. Technology trainings and tools should also be available to faculty to design e-textbooks, simulations, and gaming modules.

Finally, it is important to connect teaching with scholarship and service responsibilities. I would advocate for additional workshops and panel discussions to assist faculty in discovering innovative strategies that apply their research expertise in the classroom and connect with their service to the field and academy.

Thank you for your support and your vote.
