Department: Educational Foundations & Policy Studies

Excellence in teaching and learning is the reason for my calling to this profession. I am interested in serving in a capacity that will allow me to give back and provide others with support at the intersection of teaching and learning.

Dawn Patterson

Department: Special Education

As a faculty member who has benefited from the Committee for Excellence in Learning and Teaching through various book clubs, I am requesting your vote to serve on the committee as an At-large Representative. Recently, I have supported students through advanced learning by weaving research through their coursework. I am a strong collaborative partner across many departments and am committed to supporting faculty through a successful WCU journey. Your vote would give me the opportunity to serve to support the teaching and learning across the university at a larger capacity.

Adam Rainear

Department: Communication and Media

I am entering the second year as faculty in the Department of Communication and Media. I would be honored to help fellow faculty become better educators though membership on CELT and participating in the subsequent activities CELT offers. I hope this role allows me to engage with the wider WCU community, to help maximize the educational experience for our students.

Christopher Roemmele

Department: Earth and Space Sciences

I am a member of the Earth and Space Sciences Department. I also have a presence in the College of Education, as I teach the science methods courses to the elementary and middle grades levels of education majors, as well as supervise student teachers. I also oversee my department’s program assessment committee. As a former K-12 classroom teacher and now WCU faculty, the scholarship and excellence of teaching and learning is a vital aspect of my research and interests as an educator and aligns nicely with the CELT mission. I have participated in the SOTLA and RECAP conferences here on campus to present and share what I do to colleagues. I hope to serve on this committee to further CELT’s goals for supporting good and creative teaching, improving student learning outcomes, fostering collaboration in the WCU community, and connecting what we do here to reach outside our classrooms.

Alessandra Sarcona

Department: Nutrition

Being part of CELT aligns with my research agenda, which has included scholarship related to teaching and learning strategies, and my goal of continuing to learn and engage in best teaching practices. Since I have been a faculty member at WCU, I frequently participate in the Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA) workshops, was part of the planning committee for the Scholarship of TLA conference in January, 2018, and consistently participate in the CELT book club each semester. I would like to have a more active role in CELT by being a member of this committee.
