Adam Silverman

Department: Music Theory & Composition

As 2010-2012 chair of the Pedagogy for Engagement Committee, I would be eager to extend this interest in effective teaching at WCU by joining CAPC as the CVPA representative. During my six years at WCU, I have been a leader in the creation of four courses, including a graduate course taught via distance education (currently pending approval by CAPC), a general education course in music theory, a music theory and aurals skills course that functions as a capstone of the music minor curriculum, and a creative course in popular music songwriting, analysis and recording. I have also served as Assessment Coordinator for my department and am a current member of the CVPA Faculty Senate.

S. Kate Stewart

Department: Art

During the past three years, my involvement in the Art Department’s successful national accreditation through NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) has allowed me the opportunity to take part in responding to curricular needs that will ensure creative and intellectual excellence for the future growth and rigor of our program. In addition to my involvement in our department’s accreditation, I have been a leader in developing the Fine Arts Studio BFA capstone program, which has included participation in a departmental self-assessment. Through these procedures, I have developed a vested interest in identifying curricular needs and successful modes of learning.

My curricular interests have begun to expand into other areas including learning through international experience. Last summer I had the opportunity to co-teach a CVPA study-abroad program to China, through which our WCU art students engaged with students and faculty at the College of Arts at Guizhou University. A curriculum that offers international educational opportunities will enrich students' WCU experience, and will create a more sustainable institution at the same time. I will also be serving as a co-representative for the Knowledge Crossing Borders Conference in the spring of 2012.

I am eager to have the opportunity to serve on CAPC as a representative of CVPA, and would be honored to receive your vote.
