Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Nancy Allen

Department: Educational Development

As the Director of the Pre-Major Advising Center, my responsibilities require that I be conversant with curriculum throughout the University. In the current year, I have developed working relationships with faculty in each Division and School in order to better serve the undeclared student. I would welcome the opportunity to be a member of CAPC as I moved ahead with advising initiatives that are closely tied to curriculum innovation.

In a previous position, I served for six years as a voting member of the Undergraduate Academic Program Committee (Arcadia University), where I was actively involved in curriculum development across the College and in developing special programs such as the Honors Program and the First - Year Student Program.

Martin Patwell

Department: Educational Services

This is my 9th year at WCU. As Director of Services for Students with Disabilities I have been involved in policy development and have created policies which have been passed by CAPC, so I understand the critical importance of this body. As an active member of my department I am also aware of the specific needs of my constitutency, non-classroom faculty, in policy discussions. Lastly, since I spend considerable time with students, advocating for them with faculty and administrators, I am able to represent their needs in policy development.
