Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Frances E. Cleland

Department: Kinesiology

I am interested in representing the School of Health Sciences for another two year term on CAPC. During this past two-year term I have served on the Graduate Low Enrollment Committee. Service on this committee as well as attendance at all CAPC meetings has been quite an educational experience. I have gained valuable historical and philosophical insights regarding several aspects of the academic process that serves our students and guides the direction of the University. I now feel I can offer "more breadth and depth" as a Health Sciences representative and ask for your support in serving another two-year term on CAPC.

Sandra M. Gross

Department: Health

I'd like the opportunity to serve WCU and the School of Health Sciences as a representative on CAPC. I actively participated in the process of gaining the American Dietetic Association's approval for WCU's undergraduate didactic program in dietetics. While doing so, I created seven courses and helped develop the curriculum. I also spearheaded the development of a Nutrition Minor and the curriculum for a Public Health/Nutrition major as a second degree. I believe these experiences, along with my involvement with curriculum changes, have provided me with knowledge, insight, and perspective to be a productive CAPC member.
