Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Department: Early and Middle Grades Education

I would like to ask for your support in representing the College of Education on CAPC. I have been a full-time faculty member in the COE for eight years. I spent two years as the Associate Facilitator of CPE, and three years as Chair of the Field Experiences Committee of CPE. Both of those positions include membership on the Executive Committee of CPE, where I have reviewed proposals before they were sent to the floor of CPE. I am also a consensus-determining member of CPE, where all certification-related programs and policies are reviewed and discussed before moving on to CAPC. As a member of the Department of Early and Middle Grades Education, serving as Assistant Chairperson for the past three years, I am very familiar with the importance of the CAPC process regarding curricular programs and policies and I would be interested in participating in this process at the CAPC level. I look forward to representing the College of Education on CAPC, with your vote.

Department: Literacy

I am an Associate Professor in the Literacy Department (in my 7th year) and I served on CAPC from 2012-2014. This past year, I continued to work with the Academic Review Committee as an ad-hoc member and I am serving as co-chair of the Course Review and Revalidation subcommitee of ARC. While in this position, I was actively involved in drafting a report on class size for CAPC review. Serving on CAPC has provided me valuable opportunities to work with colleagues across campus on important policies. I am also the co-chair of the Committee for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CELT) and I find it helpful to share my experiences and knowledge from working with both committees in various settings. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve a full 3-year term on CAPC.

Department: Literacy

Dear Colleagues,

It would be privilege and a pleasure to have your support in my nomination to serve as College of Education representative for CAPC. I am in my second year as a faculty member in the Literacy Department, and I currently serve on the Professional Education Unit's Assessment and Accreditation committee and Scholarship committee. I would love to have the opportunity to represent the needs and interests of our College as a member of CAPC. I firmly believe that our academic programs and policies underlie all of our efforts to serve our students in powerful ways that both meet their learning needs and prepare them to meet the needs of the youth with whom they aspire to work. I would welcome the opportunity to participate in the shaping of those programs and policies moving into the future here at WCU.

Thank you for your consideration.
