Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Margarete J. Landwehr

Department: Dept. of Foreign Languages

Since I was hired at West Chester University in 1992, I have developed about a dozen new courses for the German program and revamped the course requirements for the two German BA degrees and the minor in German. In the process of offering new courses and new requirments, I researched similar programs at surrounding colleges as well as new trends in foreign language studies. This research and my own development of the German program, make me well suited for a position on CAPC. I am keenly interested in curriculum development and would enjoy the opportunity to learn more about what my colleagues are doing in other fields.

Eleanor Shevlin

Department: English

I have been at West Chester since the fall of 2001. From my first semester at the university I have been involved in both advising and curriculum issues. While most of my curricula experience has been at the department level, I have also had hands-on exposure to curricula and course design beyond my department, including firsthand experience designing an interdisciplinary program elsewhere. I was also fortunate to participate in the Curriculum Integration Seminar a few years into my time here. Participating in the Undergraduate Advising Taskforce during spring 2002 led to my appointment on the Undergraduate Academic Advising Committee (Fall 2002- Spring 2008). Work on this committee and my two and half years as an advisor for the Academic Development Program (ADP) have made me intimately familiar with general education courses and policies across the university. In my own department I have served as an advisor to English BA and BSEd majors for many years now. As chair of my department’s Majors’ Committee I have been responsible for implementing our new curricula for our two majors, and I now also coordinate assessment for the department. Combined, these experiences have well prepared me for service on CAPC. With my background, commitment to students, and strong interest in curricula concerns and development, I am anxious to apply my skills and knowledge to curricula concerns more broadly. I am especially interested in the ways that general education courses can be meaningful for both students and faculty. If elected to a CAPC seat, I would be honored to serve and work hard for students and faculty across the university.
