Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Angela Clarke

Department: Psychology

I have been a faculty member at WCU for the past two years, and I am committed to promoting both the academic and professional development of our students. My service involvement to date includes serving as Chair of my departmental Grade Appeals Committee and of the Psychology Student Life Committee, a working group of faculty and students whose aim is to improve departmental functioning and climate and that was recently selected by the CAPC Executive Board as a Best Practice of Student Success. I am seeking to expand my service to the broader campus community through membership on CAPC because I believe that academic programs and policies are fundamental to the educational experience that students receive at WCU.

Frank J. Hoffman

Department: Philosophy

I realize that this committee requires a great deal of work, but am willing to devote time and energy to it. In 1990 I joined the faculty of West Chester University. Since then I have been teaching courses in Philosophy and Religious Studies, including Asia courses. In recent years I have worked voluntarily and without release time as Associate Director of Ethnic Studies. My life experience includes living in diverse communities. I want to be on this CAPC committee in order to learn more about the overall WCU curriculum, to be involved in supporting curriculum development, and to gain greater understanding of the technical side of the CAPC process.

John Leveille

Department: Anthropology and Sociology

I have been a faculty member at West Chester for the past three years and a member of CAPC for the past two years. It has taken some time to fully understand how (and why) CAPC operates as it does. I now have a more thorough knowledge of this committee, and believe my experience will help me to be a more effective member of this important committee. I ask for your vote.
