Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Juanita Rodgers Comfort

Department: English

I would bring a range of relevant experiences to the CAPC position. I approach the courses I teach with a substantial understanding of the University’s vision and curricular mandates. Because I regularly participate in scholarly and professional conversations on pedagogical issues, I have gained a national perspective on them. As a former Co-Director of Composition, my responsibilities included oversight of our general education writing curriculum. And as a former member of the University’s Student Learning Outcomes Committee, I evaluated assessment reports produced by many academic programs across campus. The knowledge and insights I’ve derived from these experiences would enable me to contribute meaningfully to the curricular work of CAPC.

Celia Esplugas

Department: Foreign Languages

I am interested in serving on CAPC to contribute to the strengthening of university curricular and academic policies. My service in such positions as Coordinator of the Spanish program, chair of the Academic Recognition Committee, and advisor has familiarized me with various academic programs and needs. This experience has also been furthered by my involvement in curricular development at the departmental level and in connection with other university programs. As an advocate of innovative pedagogies and excellence in teaching, I will work towards the enhancement of our academic programs. Thank you for considering my candidacy.

CAPC plays a key role in determining the quality of our academic programs and I am seeking re-election to CAPC because I want to continue being a strong voice for academic quality and for faculty control of the curricula.
