Rules for the Election

    • Members of the Biology, Communication Studies and Mathematics Departments are ineligible to be elected to CAS seats as these departments have the full complement of two faculty currently serving.
    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Susan Gans

Department: Psychology

I've served one term as an at-large representative on CAPC (undergraduate curriculum and general education subcommittees) and I currently chair my department's undergraduate curriculum committee. Much of my service on this campus has been devoted to undergraduate curricular issues, and I would like the opportunity to continue to contribute.

Lisa A. Kirschenbaum

Department: History

I have been a member of CAPC for several years. I currently serve on the Program Review committee, which has begun the process of reviewing general education courses. I look forward to continuing this work and remaining involved in CAPC's debates on curriculum and academic policies.

Rodney Mader

Department: English

Maintaining the richness and integrity of the curriculum is one of the most important jobs we can do as faculty. I have worked with people from many different disciplines in numerous campus-wide committees since coming to WCU in 1999. I have also served as an APSCUF Local Delegate and an Alternate State Delegate. If I were elected to CAPC, I would bring a collegial, ethical, and well-rounded perspective to my work on the curriculum.

Cheer-sun Yang

Department: Computer Science

WCU has long been an innovative institute in the south-eastern region of Pennsylvania due to the contributions of all hard-working faculty members and the state-of-the-art curriculua. If I am elected to be a CAPC College of Arts and Sciences Representative, I strive to maintain the quality tradition with the synergy and enthusiasm to represent faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences. My major focuses will be:

(1) To evaluate the course proposals based on the heritage of being a leading higher-education institution,

(2) To maintain the quality of each proposal with the incentive to meet the requirements of training the work force for the 21st century,

(3) To collaborate with all faculty to foster an innovative environment for all disciplines, and

(4) To nurture the process of developing inter-disciplinary courses based of the principles illustrated in the Plan for Excellence.

Thank you all and have a nice semester!!
