Rules for the Election

    • According to CAPC by-laws, these seats may NOT be filled with faculty from the Biology, English or Foreign Languages Departments.
    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Peter Glidden

Department: Mathematics

I am seeking election to CAPC because CAPC plays a key role in determining the quality of our academic programs. I believe CAPC needs members who respect faculty control of curricula and who will be strong, yet reasoned, voices for academic quality. I believe I have the experience necessary to be an effective member of CAPC because I have university-wide leadership experience with the Faculty Senate and I have been a member of the West Chester faculty since Fall 1995, which means I have a good understanding of how the University works.

Tim Lutz

Department: Geology & Astronomy

I've served on CAPC and its Program Review committee for the last four years. Over the next several years, the R2 (Review and Reapproval) process for General Education courses will be a priority for departments and the entire University as we prepare-- yet again-- for Middle States review. During the last year we developed a way for departments to more easily enter and review their course data online. As Chair of Program Review during this year I learned a lot about the process and hope to contribute more to it. I hope you'll give me your vote to continue on CAPC.

Michael Pearson

Department: Communication

I've served on CAPC for 10 years, the Executive Committee for four, and I have chaired the Program Review & Evaluations Committee a couple of times. I speak out when I think proposals are not well thought out(and a few of those come through CAPC), support those that make sense and try to see the humor in both. I have no favorites and attempt to evaluate each proposal on its own merits, which is why I'm running for an at-large seat. Thanks.

Joel M. Ressner

Department: Chemistry

I have several years experience on both CAPC and APSCUF State Legislative Assembly and have, in the past, been able to act as a bridge between the two organizations, bringing CAPC concerns to the attention of State APSCUF and, in turn, using information discussed at APSCUF State Legislative Assembly to good advantage in CAPC. As a result of the imposition of the Academic Passport I advocated for State APSCUF's creation of an Ad Hoc Committee on Academic Issues and served as the CAPC Chair's representative to this committee when it was formed. CAPC has set examples in curricular and policy areas that have been adopted by other schools in the SSHE. I believe that I can be an asset to both WCU and the other thirteen SSHE schools by serving on both bodies.

Paul Wolfson

Department: Mathematics

My primary concern during six years' service on CAPC has been for academic integrity. I have been (I believe) a good citizen of CAPC, spending time and energy to help it run smoothly, but my reason for being on CAPC has been to support good programs and courses in all areas and to encourage improvements where I thought them needed. At times, this has meant speaking out for minority positions. If you re-elect me, I will continue to try to do these tasks conscientiously.

Joan Woolfrey

Department: Philosophy

I am in my fourth year at WCU, the second newest member of the Philosophy Department. My interest in CAPC stems from my desire to learn how things work and to participate actively and thoughtfully in a process that affects the whole university.

Stefani Yorges

Department: Psychology

I nominate Prof. Stef Yorges for CAPC because she would bring experience with curricular affairs, an excellent work ethic and a colleagial spirit to her endeavors. As Psychology Graduate Coordinator and Asst. Chair, she has been heavily involved in curricular issues which affect all student levels. Her service on committees is dependable and thorough, and her work with colleagues is marked by reason and good humor. Phil Duncan

In the seven years I have been at WCU, I have been actively involved in student advising issues, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I would be honored to serve on this important committee. Stefani Yorges
