Rules for the Election
Virginia M. da CostaDepartment: Art As assistant professor of Art History in the Department of Art, I wish to serve the university as a CAPC representative. My Women Artists course is cross listed with Women's Studies and I am a continuing participant in the Learning Communities courses held each Fall. My interest is in integrating art as a visual form of communications not only within the humanities but in science, music, and other disciplines. I am also interested in promoting more effective ways of teaching, learning and service for the students and faculty of West Chester University and in particular, within the College of Arts and Sciences. I served in an interdisciplinary subcommittee for the General Education Committee and have helped to redesign the art history minor curriculum. My work in writing emphasis, interdisciplinary, and new art history course submissions would be an asset to CAPC and I have benefited from the committee's expertise. Thank you for your consideration of my nomination. Timothy LutzDepartment: Geology & Astronomy During my first two-year term on CAPC I have been a member of the Academic Program Review Committee, which has been evaluating low-enrollment programs and helping to develop the R2 (review and reapproval) process. Assessing programs and curriculum-- attempting to determine whether they are performing as we intend-- is important for the University at several levels. If re-elected I look forward to representing the faculty on this committee and in the CAPC Assembly. Michael PearsonDepartment: Communication Studies Hi! I have served on CAPC for the past six years and I am a member of the Executive Board of CAPC. Over the past year I chaired the Program Review and Evaluation Committee and we took on more work than that committee has had in over a decade...we reviewed over 40 graduate low-enrollment programs and we began the Review and Reapproval (R2) process for gen. ed. courses. Thanks to a very hard working committee we accomplished our goals for the year.
Helen ReidDepartment: Chemistry Loretta Rieser-DannerDepartment: Psychology I would like to serve as a CAPC representative because I believe that the committee serves a critically important role in the university. Curriculum is at the heart of this, and any other, university. Ongoing curriculum review, therefore, is a critical process. As a CAPC representative, I would strive to consider all curriculum issues from the perspective of an educator who is interested first, and foremost, in the education and future success of our students. I would also work to continue CAPC's current focus on innovative pedagogical techniques, continually highlighting the sometimes forgotten link between our teaching methods or styles and student learning. I would very much like to contribute to the work of this important committee and would appreciate the opportunity to work with the other university representatives in this process. Thank you for considering my nomination. Paul R WolfsonDepartment: Mathematics During my four years' service, CAPC has considered a number of important curricular issues, including revision of the General Education requirements. Although the new requirements are far from perfect, I think that our extensive discussion made many improvements. I would like to continue to work to maintain or imporve the quality of our courses and programs. I therefore solicit your vote. Cheer-Sun YangDepartment: Computer Science I've joined West Chester University as Associate Professor since Fall 2000. I would like to serve the school community as a CAPC Representative of the College of Arts and Sciences. (I am currently serving in the Outstanding Student Award Committee.) Prior to joining Computer Science Department of WCU, I also taught Computer Science courses at Temple University and Widener University. Since joining WCU, I developed several networking courses both at the undergraduate and graduate level. I also attended workshops at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Dixon University Center in the areas of computer security and wireless application protocols, respectively. Moreover, I participated in the PT-3 Project to collaborate with other faculty in the School of Education. What I can contribute to the CAPC includes extensive exposure on various curricula both inside and outside of West Chester University. If I am elected, I will strive to focus on two areas described in the Plan of Excellence. First, I will push and monitor the general curriculum reform as described in the Plan of Excellence such that our curricula can accommodate the requirements of students dynamically. Second, I will review and propose improvements on curricula of low enrollment programs such that these programs can also continue to be invaluable assets of West Chester University. For more information about my teaching and research, please refer to my web site www.cs.wcupa.edu/~yang. Thank you for your consideration. Created and copyrighted by Clifford Johnston, 2000-12 |
