Rules for the Election
Neil CurtisDepartment: Sports Medicine I am excited for the opportunity to serve the university as a member of CAPC. I previously enjoyed my term serving four terms on CAPC. I have meaningful experience with curriculum and policy as a professor, chairperson, and assessment coordinator with both undergraduate and graduate programs. I currently serve as a graduate coordinator, program director and recently served CAPC on the task force to help develop the criteria and framework for the general education speaking requirement. I am the APSCUF department representative which I have done for more than 15 years. I look forward to returning to CAPC to support my colleagues and university. Thank you for your consideration. Rodney MaderDepartment: English Dear Colleagues: Please consider voting for me for the At-large seat on CAPC. I have served on CAPC almost continuously for more than a decade, including roles as Chair of the Diverse Communities Committee, the General Education Committee, and the Program Review Committee (interim), as well as on the Executive Committee as Secretary and Vice Chair. I also served as the Director of General Education during our reform of the program. While on a hiatus from CAPC over the past year, I have continued to work on both the FYE and Interdisciplinary requirements. Outside of CAPC, I served as Chair of English from 2016-20, during which we revised our undergraduate program(s). If elected, I will bring this range of experiences to improving our university's curriculum. Joseph W. MoserDepartment: Languages and Cultures I served as a sabbatical proxy on CAPC in 2018-19 and I have served on the Department of Languages and Cultures Curriculum Committee since 2016 and chaired that committee in 2020-21. I would be honored to serve on CAPC as an At-large Representative. Jacqueline Van SchooneveldDepartment: Early and Middle Grades I have been a faculty member of the CESW in the Department of Early and Middle Grades since 2013. During my time at WCU I have served as the department Curriculum & Assessment Coordinator and represented the department on the College Assessment and Accreditation Committee. Through those experience I have participated in course development and program changes. I am excited to extend those opportunities I've had by serving on CAPC. Jordan StokesDepartment: MCH Patricia Swasey WashingtonDepartment: Communication Sciences and Disorders As a WCU faculty for 11 years and as ex-officio of CAPC’s Diverse Communities subcommittee since 2018, I recognize and appreciate the important role of CAPC in our university. Through working with the Diverse Communities Subcommittee, I have had the privilege of reading various course proposals, apprising me of the richness and diversity of expertise that our faculty members offer. In the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, I have founded the Bilingual Emphasis Course Sequence (BECS), an option in the graduate program, which prepares students for work as bilingual speech-language pathologists, catering to the needs of a growing culturally and linguistically diverse U.S. population. I also created and lead an annual study abroad to Costa Rica, in which students improve their skillsets by collaborating with students and faculty from a Costa Rican health sciences university, involving clinical, didactic, and research components. Additionally, after working to establish a memorandum of agreement between the two universities, I have successfully promoted and conducted interdepartmental collaborations, which will serve to enhance faculty and student enrichment. It is my desire to support the curriculum to meet the needs of students, faculty, and university. I would be honored to contribute to CAPC’s excellence.
