Rules for the Election

    • Each department can have at most three representatives on CAPC.

    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, if that candidates department reaches the 3 representatives limit, any remaining candidates from the same department will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each ballot submitted counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for department representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Nomination for CAPC

Dear colleagues, I’d like to ask you for your support of my candidacy to continue serving CAPC as an at Large representative. I am currently completing my first term on CAPC, and as a member of UGPC, I have been fortunate to learn about the diversity of the curriculum and pedagogical approaches and interests of our faculty. During my term, I chaired the Culture Cluster Subcommittee, and also served on the ad-hoc committee to revise the Distance Education (DE) checklist. I have contributed to the diversity of our programs at WCU, creating minors in Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese, and co-worked with colleagues in ENG and History on creating a Digital Humanities Minor, in addition to numerous courses over the years, and an interdisciplinary study abroad program (with a colleague in History). I aim to continue advocacy for interdisciplinary collaborations because WCU has all the ingredients to provide the best education possible for our students through our curricular efforts and leadership. Thank you for your consideration.

Josh Auld

Department: Biology

Dear Colleagues: I am asking for your support in continuing my service as a member of CAPC. As current CAPC Vice Chair and past chair of CAPC, I have had the pleasure of working with numerous faculty in a variety of contexts to facilitate curricular review and improvement. I have built strong relationships with faculty across campus, and I consider it a privilege to represent the faculty in this important shared governance process. I would be grateful for your support in continuing this work. CAPC embodies the faculty voice in the curriculum, and I work diligently to ensure that this voice is clearly expressed. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Since 2016 I have served as the nursing curriculum chair as well as a proxy for CAPC. I believe my experience as both a proxy and curriculum chair would be beneficial in service to the university in discussions of curricular programming. Thank you for your consideration.

Kevin W. Dean

Department: Honors College

I ask your support as I place my name in nomination for election to a term on CAPC as an At Large representative through Spring 2024. For nearly three decades, some of the most meaningful “service” I provide the WCU community has come through this body and I welcome the opportunity to continue this work. As a former CAPC Chair, I appreciate how having a blend of new voices as well as some with a sense of history allows CAPC to do its best work. Having worked with students across all majors on campus, through my work with the Honors College, I have familiarity with a wide range of diverse academic programs and policies. As a current member of UGPC I have and will continue to assist those with process questions. In short, I would be honored to continue my service, advocating the essential message of faculty ownership of curriculum and faculty leadership in academic policy. Thanks for your consideration.

Susan L Johnston

Department: Anthropology & Sociology

Colleagues: I would be most grateful for your support to continue my CAPC service. I have been an elected member since 2009 and am currently serving as the Executive Secretary of this body and as a member of the Undergraduate Programs Committee (UGPC). I have also served as Vice Chair, founding Chair of the Academic Review Committee, and Faculty Co-chair of UGPC. Being involved with CAPC has been a rewarding experience for me, and I would very much like to continue to represent the faculty on this important body. My interest in and experience with curriculum development and review run deep, spanning my academic career at WCU, where I have served on my department’s curriculum committee, as department chair, and as an interim associate dean whose duties included review of curriculum proposals as they made their way through the approval process. Given my experience, I believe I can continue to contribute in a meaningful way to ensuring an effective and central role for faculty in creating and maintaining quality curricula. Thank you.
