As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.

Josh Auld

Department: Biology

I am finishing a one-year (my first) term on CAPC where I have served on the Graduate Programs and Policies Committee. During this year, I have learned a great deal and I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue serving on CAPC. Serving in this fashion affords me the opportunity to extend my departmental service (as Assessment Coordinator and a member of the Biology Department Graduate and Curriculum Committees) to the University level.

Thank you for your time and support.

Mary Braz

Department: Communication Studies

I welcome the opportunity to continue my service to the campus community by being elected as a CAPC At-large Representative. I am committed to serving faculty and students at WCU and would be honored to serve in this position. Thank you for your consideration.

Nicole Cattano

Department: Sports Medicine

I am in my 7th year as member of the Sports Medicine Department and I am seeking your support to serve on CAPC for the upcoming term. I have had the privilege of regularly serving as a graduate committee member as well as being an active department curriculum committee member over the past several years. I am energized with some of the exciting changes that I have seen over my tenure at WCU. I have had the pleasure of serving as a proxy at CAPC and am eager to become an active member and provide continued support to the WCU community and our continued success and growth.

Joanne Conlon

Department: Educational Development

As the Director of Pre-Major Academic Advising, I represent the interests of 1700 students, among the larger student groups on campus. In order to advise these students it is very important for me to know the intricacies of all of the majors and minors at WCU. For the last three years, I have contributed my knowledge and understanding as a member of the Undergraduate Programs Committee. I believe that this perspective has been a benefit to the CAPC members as relevant issues are considered. I appreciate your consideration for granting me another term.

David Doorn

Department: Economics and Finance

I would welcome the opportunity to serve as one of the At-large representatives to CAPC. I am currently on the Undergraduate Program Committee of the College of Business and Public Affairs and, although this is only my second year at West Chester University, I also have many years of additional service experience from my previous institution. This included service at all levels -- from the department and the school of business to campus-wide bodies.

Of my previous service activities, probably the one that best prepared me for CAPC would be my years on the Undergraduate Committee of the School of Business and Economics. This was essentially the school’s curriculum committee and served a similar role as that of CAPC. In my final year with the school I was vice-chair of that committee and was slated to take over the chairmanship had I remained there. At the university level I also served on several committees and task forces. These primarily dealt with changes to the University’s liberal education program, but also included a revamping of the University’s course evaluation procedures and forms. I was chair of the pedagogy subcommittee of the University’s Liberal Education Council in my last year there, as well.

If you would like more information on my experience and qualifications, please don’t hesitate to email me for my CV (ddoorn@wcupa.edu). Thank you for your consideration.

Brian Halsey

Department: Marketing

Hello everyone;

I respectfully ask for your support to serve another term as one of your representatives to CAPC. During my first term I served on both the Academic Review Committee and as the Chair of the Course Delivery Subcommittee.

As Chair of the Course Delivery Subcommittee I am responsible for working with faculty, chairs, Course Delivery Subcommittee members, the Academic Review Committee and the Distance Education Office in order to recommend new policies for our online and blended courses, and to facilitate the approval of blended (hybrid), online, and condensed format courses. In that position I have attempted to streamline the process as much as possible, and I have worked closely with different faculty groups in order to assist them in navigating the approval process.

Over the last three years I have accumulated a significant amount of institutional knowledge that I would like to continue to share with the University community.

Thank you.

Scott Heinerichs

Department: Sports Medicine

I have just completed my first term on CAPC and would like to continue in the participation of shared governance related to curriculum and academic policy decisions on our campus. Currently I serve on the General Education Committee of CAPC where I chair the Writing Emphasis ("W") subcommittee. Another area of service as it relates to curriculum and academic policy is that I am part of a team who has developed a General Education pilot project this semester/summer working with various faculty who teach general education courses throughout campus to better evaluate student learning within general education. Additionally, I serve my department on several committees related to curriculum, the university in my role as Faculty Associate for teaching, learning and assessment and my profession as a committee member on our national education committee. Taken together these experiences have provided me a broad view of the campus culture to ensure all voices are heard as it relates to curriculum and academic policies. Please consider my nomination for an At-large member of CAPC.

I am interested in collaborating on curricular development of the university at large. Having submitted various courses for CAPC approval, I have become familiar with the process and I am ready to offer a valuable perspective given my humanistic, international and diverse academic formation.

Christine Karpinski

Department: Nutrition

I absolutely love (yes, love) serving on CAPC! I have served on CAPC since 2011 – and it would be my honor to serve for another term. I have been diligent about learning the many policies and procedures related to CAPC, especially as a member of the Undergraduate Programs Committee. I believe that I am open and fair when considering proposals brought to the committee or general assembly. Whether I am representing the College of Health Science or the At-Large community, I guarantee you that I give my full effort at all times.

Matin Katirai

Department: Geography and Planning

Dear Friends and Colleagues

This past year I have served on CAPC as a proxy and the graduate executive council. I believe that I was assisting with some important work, such as the thesis standards subcommittee and graduate school path-back subcommittee. I have a great interest in the work of CAPC and would like to continue to work on important initiatives such as these and be of service to the university and my colleagues. Thank you for your consideration.

Corinne Murphy

Department: Special Education

As Facilitator of the Council of Professional Education (CPE), I have served on CAPC and CAPC Executive Committee in an ex-officio position for the past 3 years. During that time, I have learned a great deal about the intersection of curriculum development and university policy. I have had many opportunities to work with faculty from departments across the university as they have developed new programs and worked through the accompanying CAPC paperwork.

I welcome the opportunity to serve as an elected member of CAPC so that I may continue to support the university faculty in efficiently and effectively adding new programs and modifying those that already exist. Thank you for your consideration.

Lisa Ruchti

Department: Anthropology and Sociology

As current Chair of the Diverse Communities (J) Sub-Committee of the General Education Committee of CAPC, I remain very committed to ensuring that our students learn about diversity from the perspective of understanding structural inequalities as well as the agency, voice, and resistance of traditionally underrepresented groups.

As Associate Professor of Sociology and Women's and Gender Studies, my own teaching, research, and other university service reflect my commitment to a safe and socially just campus climate. For example, I continue to teach WOS 225 and all my classes using Intersectionality as my primary theoretical framework to study the power dynamics of social constructs of gender, race, class, sexuality, and nationality. I have also served as LGBTQA Faculty Associate for the past three years. I am on the College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee.

If re-elected to CAPC and reappointed as Chair of the J Committee, I promise to continue to work with faculty individually and in departments to offer our students the theoretical and practical tools they need to thrive in a socially, politically, and economically diverse society. Thank you for your support.

Elizabeth Staruch

Department: Theatre and Dance

My name is Liz Staruch and I am faculty in the Department of Theatre and Dance. I currently support CAPC as a member of the Academic Review committee and have co-chaired the Program Review committee for two years. As a member of my department's curriculum committee, we overhauled our curriculum in 2012 to bring our degree program in line with the Board of Governor’s mandate. My close and attentive work on this inspired me to deepen my commitment of service to the university in terms of curricular issues, and my work with Academic Review has only strengthened that resolve. I would be honored to serve again on CAPC and would appreciate your vote.
