Timothy J. Brown

Department: Communication Studies

I am asking for your support to be re-elected as a member of CAPC. For the past six years, I have served on the Undergraduate Programs Committee which reviews proposals to change/revise the curriculum at the university. I believe my experience as a department chair and former “chair of chairs,” has helped the committee to approve changes that enhance our programs and the educational experience of our students. With your support, I would like to continue this important work.

Maria Jose Cabrera-Puche

Department: Languages and Cultures

After serving for several years as a CAPC Proxy for diverse professors in my Department, I am willing to serve now as a CAPC At-large Representative. I consider that my experience in Assessment (as the Assessment Coordinator for my Department), as well as my theoretical and practical Curricular experience (in face-to-face, and online courses and programs) will be excellent features to serve as a CAPC Representative.

Wayne Hanley

Department: History

Having served on CAPC for the past six year, I would welcome the opportunity to continue as a member of CAPC to help ensure the quality courses and programs. My background as social studies coordinator and department chair give me unique insights to programmatic requirements, especially those related to teacher certification (and initiated by the PA Department of Education). I have an abiding interest in general education and have served as a member of CAPC's General Education committee and the Interdisciplinary subcommittee, and I would like to continue that work.

Susan L Johnston

Department: Anthropology & Sociology

I am completing my second term on CAPC, during which I have continued to serve on the Program Review and Revalidation Committee. CAPC has been a rewarding experience for me, and I would very much like to continue to represent the faculty on this important body. My interest in and experience with curriculum development and review run deep, spanning my academic careers at WCU and at a prior institution. I have served on my department curriculum committee. As department chair, I have played a pivotal role in supporting curriculum development within my department and helping faculty prepare effective proposals. During a one-year appointment as interim associate dean, I reviewed all of the curriculum proposals that were working their way toward CAPC and recommended action to the Dean.

With my commitment to quality and this extensive and varied experience, I believe I can continue to contribute in a meaningful way to insuring an effective and central role for faculty in creating and maintaining curricula. I would be most grateful for your vote.

Department: Political Science

Dear Colleagues:

I am asking for your support to continue my service as a member of CAPC. This past year I have Chaired the Program Review and Revalidation Committee and served on the CAPC Executive Committee. During the past two years, I have had the honor of working with departments and faculty members in preparing their proposals so that they meet CAPC guidelines. At the department level, I am the Associate Director of the MPA Program, which has provided me the opportunity to better understand the unique demands of operating within the parameters of a specialized accrediting body. I believe the sum of my experiences makes me an excellent candidate and I would welcome the opportunity to continue my involvement in this important shared governance committee.

I am seeking your support to be reelected to CAPC. For the past four years I have served on CAPC, most recently on the Distance Education subcommittee. On our campus we are seeing an increased number of distance education courses being created. As an educational technology specialist I would like to be involved in the review of these courses, and help us to create and deliver quality distance education classes. Thank you for your consideration.

Juliet Wunsch

Department: Department of Theatre and Dance

I am a member of the Department of Theatre and Dance, and would be honored to have your support to continue to serve on CAPC.

As a member of CAPC, I have had the pleasure of serving on the Undergraduate Policy Committee, reviewing our grading system (specifically NG and IP policy), as well as policy regarding the Academic Renewal Review and Winter Sessions. I am currently serving as a member of the General Education Committee, reviewing general education proposals as well as looking at current practices and methods to assess the goals of General Education at West Chester University.

Assessment of student learning has been a particular interest and part of my university service since coming to West Chester University in 1999. My journey began with the Student Learning Outcome Committee (SLOC) where I explored ways to create student driven courses and programming. I was always intrigued by the challenge of using assessment in positive ways: to continue to improve student learning as well as increase student appreciation for their own development. After SLOC, I transitioned to a position on the Assessment Advisory Committee where we spent time looking at the structure of assessment in the University, and the education of faculty members in the assessment process. In 2009-2010 I served on the Middlestates Review Committee as a member of the team exploring Assessment Practices University wide.

My interest in curriculum planning and academic policy is very student centered: What is a well rounded student? What type of student best represents the values and goals of West Chester University? How can the institution best meet student needs while maintaining the highest level of excellence?

I am a good fit for CAPC because I have a strong interest in understanding student learning. I am open minded and willing to recognize the unique needs of Colleges, Departments and Co-Curricular venues. I have a strong desire to understand the “big picture”. I am a committed team member, and strong collaborator.

I would greatly appreciate your continued support, and look forward to serving on CAPC.
