    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.

Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Jay Berkowitz

Department: Theatre and Dance

As a department chair for eleven years, a past member of CAPC and former vice-chair, and with a current released time position of Special Assistant for Student Academic Policy in the office of the AVAA, I have, and continue to deal daily with, CAPC originated and generated policies. I believe I can make a contribution to the committee based on experience with, and understanding of, the academic policies that the faculty originates and wishes implemented.

Laurie Bernotsky

Department: Political Science

I have served on CAPC for the past several years including serving on CAPC Executive Committee and chairing the General Education Committee. The upcoming Middle States Accreditation and Review process will be a challenging time for these CAPC committees and I would like to continue to serve as a member of CAPC as we negotiate this process and the other academic and policy challenges that we will face. My experience as a faculty member, a graduate program director, and a former member of several university-wide committees has given me a broad context and perspective from which to serve. I would appreciate your support as I seek to continue to serve as a member of CAPC.

Angela Clarke

Department: Psychology

I have been a faculty member at WCU for the past two years, and I am committed to promoting both the academic and professional development of our students. My service involvement to date includes serving as Chair of my departmental Grade Appeals Committee and of the Psychology Student Life Committee, a working group of faculty and students whose aim is to improve departmental functioning and climate and that was recently selected by the CAPC Executive Board as a Best Practice of Student Success. I am seeking to expand my service to the broader campus community through membership on CAPC because I believe that academic programs and policies are fundamental to the educational experience that students receive at WCU.

Joanne Conlon

Department: USSSS- Pre-Major Advising

As the Director of Pre-Major Academic Advising, I represent the interests of 1500 students, among the larger groups on campus. In order to advise these students it is very important for me to know the intricacies of all of the majors and minors at WCU. This perspective would be of great benefit to the CAPC members as relevant issues are considered.

Neil Curtis

Department: Sports Medicine

As a former two-term CAPC member, former department chair, current program coordinator and a 16 year faculty member, I have the experience, insight and perpective to once again serve on CAPC. Thank you for your consideration.

Judith J. Greenamyer

Department: Biology

I would like to continue to serve on CAPC. I have served on the policies committee for several years, and I have been the secretary for the past two years. As the Assistant Chair of my department and the graduate coordinator, I believe that I bring to this position a wide range of experience in how academic issues affect all areas of the university.

Sandra Gross-Walz

Department: Health

As a CAPC member for the past two terms, I have enjoyed working with others interested in curricular and policy matters. I have been involved in program development, course/curriculum evaluations and revisions, and policy development both at the department and university levels. I would welcome the opportunity to serve another term and ask for your support.

John Leveille

Department: Anthropology and Sociology

I have been a faculty member at West Chester for the past three years and a member of CAPC for the past two years. From my experience, it took some time to fully understand how (and why) CAPC operates as it does. I now have an effective understanding of CAPC and believe this knowledge will aid me in being a more effective member of this committee. I'm hopeful I will be given the opportunity to help CAPC make the most optimal decisions for West Chester Unviersity.

Rodney Mader

Department: English

Faculty control of the curriculum is extremely important, and we are fortunate to have a strong and dynamic process here at WCU. I have found my service on CAPC to be fulfilling and intellectually engaging, and I would be honored to be elected for another term.

Thus far I have served on CAPC for two terms, chairing the Diverse Communities Subcommittee of the General Education Committee. During Spring 2009, I have filled in as Chair of Gen Ed for Laurie Bernotsky, who is on sabbatical. I welcome the opportunity to continue working on General Education.

Loretta Rieser-Danner

Department: Psychology

Students come to WCU with a wide variety of talents, skills, academic abilities, and strengths. I believe our curriculum and academic policies should reflect and address this variety in our attempt to prepare students for an ever-changing world. To this end, I believe that a variety of pedagogical approaches are useful as we help students meet both general and specific learning objectives. As a member of CAPC for the past four years, I have greatly enjoyed working with others interetsed in curricular and policy issues and have learned a great deal about the many ways in which the WCU faculty serve the educational needs of our studens. I would welcome the opportunity to continue to serve as a member of CAPC, contributing, where possible, to university curricular and policy development and, simultaneously, learning more about the variety of creative and effective pedagogical strategies implemented by our faculty.

Jack Waber

Department: Biology

It is my view that control of the curriculum, especially in regard to rules/regulations, is slowly eroding. PASSHE seems to be taking more and more control of what has traditionally been faculty control of the academic life to the University. I intend to vigorously fight this trend, and hopefully regain some of what has been lost.
