Rules for the Election

    • According to CAPC by-laws, no more than two members of any one department may serve on CACP simultaneously. The top five vote-getters will be elected, provided that these five do not violate the above mentioned rule.
    • Each department can have at most two representatives on CAPC.
    • The election is decided by a plurality of those casting votes unless such results violate the previous rule or the number of candidates does not exceed the number of positions to fill. In the later case, each candidate will be voted on by an approve/disapprove ballot.
    • Vacant seats will be filled one at a time with the current vacant seat filled by the candidate with the highest vote count. As each seat is filled, the candidate filling that seat and any other candidates from the same department as the candidate filling that seat will be disqualified. Votes cast for disqualified candidates, as just defined, will not be considered in filling remaining vacant seats.
    • Each candidate selected counts as a cast vote.
    • Members elected to at-large seats cannot be nominated for school representative seats.
    • Seats with longer terms will be filled first. In the case of an approve/disapprove ballot, candidates will be ranked according to number of approve votes.

Department: History

I wish to serve on a committee which greatly affects/directs the climate at West Chester University.

Kevin W. Dean

Department: Communication Studies

I would appreciate your support as I seek another term in CAPC. As the current Chair, I am pleased with the accomplishments we have made this year and by the tone in which assembly meetings have been conducted. The current structure of operations allows for both a more open and efficient flow of information, two issues to which I am deeply committed. While CAPC is primarily a reactive body by definition, we have moved forward to embrace some proactive initatives. In this light, I am particularly proud of the continuation of the "Best Practices in Pedagogy Series" which affords our peers an opportunity to showcase their exemplary work with students. I have greatly enjoyed my service in CAPC and would welcome your endorsement for continuation.

Peter L. Glidden

Department: Mathematics

I ask for your support as I seek election to my first term on CAPC. I have served as President of the Faculty Senate for two years and I have served on the Faculty Senate Executive for the past several years. I believe that I can offer CAPC fair, reasonable, and balanced views on faculty governance of curriculum and academic policy from a University-wide perspective.

Frank J. Hoffman

Department: Philosophy

I am a teacher-scholar who is genuinely interested curriculum issues, and would appreciate the opportunity to serve on CAPC. During my academic career I have participated in faculty workshops on critical thinking, writing across the curriculum, gender, race, and class, and Asia in the curriculum. I have been project director for public humanities programs on several topics, and am currently the project chair for the WCU Metanexus Institute Local Societies Initiative, “Philosophical Study of Religion, Science, and Asian Thought.” My background includes work on a variety of campus committees at WCU since 1990, including University Computer Advisory Committee, Outcomes Assessment Committee, Library Committee, Academic Recognition Committee, and APSCUF at state, WCU executive council, and department delegate levels. I enjoy taking my students to conferences and developing opportunities for them to present their written work in public. I support work of the Research Consortium at WCU, and am one of the directors of the Greater Philadelphia Philosophy Consortium. To CAPC I would bring enthusiasm, academic standards, and recognition of the importance of cultural perspectives in global education.

Mary Ann Maggitti

Department: Early Childhood & Special Education

I have served on CAPC for eleven consecutive years and have experience as CAPC chair, secretary and a member of the CAPC Executive Committee. My involvement with CAPC and other campus responsibilities have given me an appreciation for thoughtful and careful processes in developing curriculum and academic policy. I would value the opportunity to continue to as a CAPC member and pledge to give my best efforts to support excellence for our academic programs and students.

Department: Communication

Sometimes serving on CAPC can be just plain depressing (the issues, not the people), but there is a sense of accomplishment and there are some fun people to work with so I'm back for more! I've served on CAPC 10 years, the Executive Committee for four, and I have chaired the Program Review & Evaluations Committee a couple of times. I speak out when I think proposals are stupid (and believe it or not, a few of those come through CAPC), support those that make sense and try to see the humour in both. I have no favorites and attempt to evaluate each proposal on its own merits, which is why I'm running for an at-large seat. Thanks.

Arlene Rengert

Department: Geography and Planning

In my early years on CAPC I participated in the creation of a course repeat policy (when there was none) and in the tightening of a probation policy (when it was very loose), and I found those projects challenging and rewarding such that I was 'hooked.' In more recent years I have participated in the recent significant revisions of graduate admissions and continuation policies, as well as in the review and recommendations of many new or revised graduate programs. I continue to be 'hooked.' Even the recent series of extensive discussions about, and revisions of, the CAPC by-laws haven't dissuaded me; I'd still like to continue on CAPC if you wish me to.

Donna Usher

Department: Art Department

I have the Chaired the University Festival, Chaired the President's Scholarship Gala Committee, served on the Faculty Senate, the Academic Recognition Committee, CASSDA, and the Hazardous Substance Committee. I would like the opportunity to serve on CAPC so that I may have input into new course proposals and curriculum.I will be fair and impartial when I evaluate the proposals that come before CAPC.

Paul Wolfson

Department: Mathematics

My primary concern during six years' service on CAPC has been for academic integrity. I have been (I believe) a good citizen of CAPC, spending time and energy to help it run smoothly, but my reason for being on CAPC has been to support good programs and courses in all areas and to encourage improvements where I thought them needed. At times, this has meant speaking out for minority positions. If you re-elect me, I will continue to try to do these tasks conscientiously.
