Rules for the Election
Mark RimpleDepartment: Music Theory, History and Composition I am respectfully seeking a third and final term as APSCUF Chapter President. If reelected, I plan to work on improving the faculty evaluation process and increasing the number and support of full-time adjunct faculty. I will lead our effort to identify bias, and to improve data reporting for student evaluations. I will continue to advocate for improving the reporting process and APSCUF representation for sexual misconduct survivors. I will lead the chapter's advocacy for relief in unnecessary workload, e.g., the heavy burden of assessment work. And I will insist on the improvement of faculty service by HR. I will work with our administration to be sure that all faculty are treated fairly and equally and do not face abusive behavior by those with significant power in the workplace by encouraging reporting and insisting on a timely response to complaints. I have built strong relationships with the leaders of Senate and CAPC, which has helped to clarify and strengthen shared governance on campus. In my four years of service, I have assembled an increasingly diverse team of leaders who work well together on a host of issues and hope to see many of them continue in their roles. I encourage others to step up and take the reins of leadership for our chapter. And I am proud to say that my leadership team and our members have increased membership significantly even after the Janus decision, proving that collective bargaining can and will survive after the end of fair share. My work includes taking an active role in the politics of our profession, and I will continue to meet with state legislators and advocate on issues that are important to faculty and students including bills that help students pay for college, like the PA Promise bills currently in the Legislature, on fair Higher Education Funding, and I will continue to speak out against anti-union and anti-public education legislation and policies. Finally, we will eventually be closing in on the "business end" of contract negotiations, and while we are talking and progress is being made, I am ready to lead a team that can and will mobilize for a job action, should it have to occur, based on the success of our first-ever strike. Six years is longer than I envisioned leading our union, as it is a burdensome job. But it is also a role I am passionately committed to. I humbly ask that you reelect me as your Chapter President.
