Rules for the Election
Benjamin BrumleyDepartment: Ed Foundations and Policy Studies I have represented the Department of Educational Foundations and Policy Studies at the APSCUF DRC for the past seven years. In the 2023–2024 academic year, I accepted an invitation to serve as Co-Chair of the APSCUF Committee on Adjunct Faculty and attend WCU-APSCUF Executive Committee meetings. I continue to serve in this role. During my term as Co-Chair, our committee cosponsored the Pay Equity Working Group with the Social Justice Committee and led several initiatives supporting adjunct faculty at WCU. Additionally, as Co-Chair, I serve on the state-level committee representing adjunct faculty. I would be honored to represent our chapter as a state delegate. Cristóbal Cardemil-KrauseDepartment: Languages and Cultures I've been serving as an APSCUF State Delegate since Fall 2021, and before then as an alternate State Delegate since Fall 2019. I've found that my participation in this instance has been helpful with my colleagues at WCU, with whom I share information as needed, and with our other PASSHE colleagues during Legislative Assembly. It is service I enjoy enormously and I would love to continue doing it. Tina Chiarelli-HelminiakDepartment: Graduate Social Work Greetings colleagues! I seek support to continue on as your advocate as part of the WCU APSCUF State Delegation. You vote will enable me to continue serving as the APSCUF Arrangements Co-Officer, as I have for the past two years. In this role, I build community among our statewide delegates which in turn strengthens our union as a whole. As a statewide assemble and within the WCU delegation, we have made some challenging decisions together and it has been humbling to watch democracy in action. I want to continue to advocate on your behalf to strengthen the Commonwealth's public higher education system, through collective bargaining that cares for us and our families, as well as makes college more accessible and affordable for all students to thrive and graduate. In solidarity, Tina :) William Keith CorbittDepartment: Language and Cultures I have served two terms in the DRC representing the Department of Languages and Cultures and I am looking to increase my involvement. I would consider it an honor to represent WCU/APSCUF as a state delegate. Randall CreamDepartment: English I'd be happy to serve as State Delegate and help keep our union strong. We must build strong member connections and Legislative Assembly offers a chance to do just that. I've been showing up and doing my part since serving as Picket Captain in 2016, and I'd like to help us in the battles that are going to come our way in the next 4 years. Kim DoanDepartment: Special Education I am a full professor in the Dept of Special Education which means I have the time and energy to put into service. I was a union representative when I taught K-12 and have been my dept's APSCUF representative since my first semester on campus. I have been a state delegate for the past 6 years, have served on the statewide APSCUF scholarship committee for over 10 years, and more recently, have represented WCU along with fellow colleagues at meetings with local legislators during summers and breaks. I organized the voter registration drive on campus the past 3 years and several end-of-semester faculty gatherings (some call them happy hour) to foster camaraderie and spirit. Our current state delegation does not represent the diversity that WCU has and my commitment to diversity means I have to put myself out there. I hope you will choose me to represent WCU for my long history of service to APSCUF. Margaret ErvinDepartment: English As my term as APSCUF President comes to an end, I look forward to continuing to serve the union as a State Delegate. It's so important for WCU to be well-represented at the state level. I would be honored to continue to serve in this capacity. Christy HicksDepartment: Special Education Hello, and thanks for reading my statement. I am seeking another term as a state delegate to the APSCUF Legislative Assembly, because I believe that strong, informed advocacy is essential for protecting and advancing the rights of faculty. Since 2013, I have served APSCUF in various roles, and in my current position as Grievance Chair, I have seen firsthand how state-level decisions directly impact our campus community. Remaining connected to the broader discussions at the state level allows me to better serve my colleagues by staying informed, contributing to policy discussions, and ensuring that our concerns are heard and addressed. I am committed to representing our faculty with integrity and dedication, advocating for fair policies, and working collaboratively to strengthen our union. I appreciate your time and consideration, and I would really appreciate your vote. Erin HippleDepartment: Graduate Social Work I am delighted to run for APSCUF State Delegate. From my origins as a 90s punk kid to my current role as an Associate professor of Graduate Social Work, I have had an interest in addressing systemic injustices in favor of more equitable {material} working/living conditions. I am passionate about unions as a means of building collective/community power and of doing my part to uphold the rights of all faculty. My education in social work has provided me with a clear understanding of how macro systems influence interpersonal and community experiences. My training and experience as a psychotherapist have helped me build communication skills that support me in being able to hear and hold multiple perspectives from a trauma-informed and justice-oriented lens. It would be an honor to serve. Thank you for your consideration! Daniela JohannesDepartment: Languages and Cultures I currently serve as my department's APSCUF representative and am seeking to continue this work at the state level. At the College level, I serve as chair of the Equity, Access, Inclusion, and Diversity (EAIDI) Committee, and I am committed to fostering a more inclusive and transparent union culture that reflects the diversity of our faculty/coaches and student body. I believe in strong, equity-driven advocacy, open communication, and collective action in defense of public higher education. I would be honored to represent our campus in this broader capacity. Clifford JohnstonDepartment: Mathematics As a State Delegate, I will serve on behalf of the WCU faculty to keep APSCUF focused on those activities that will continue to build solidarity. I have served many years as State Delegate and local Corresponding Secretary. In the upcoming years, WCU faculty will need strong and experienced voices in the assembly. As a State Delegate, I will use my experience to support our local delegation and leadership. Seth KahnDepartment: English I ask for your support for three reasons, all of which revolve around this point: the only viable response to what threatens higher ed nationally and in PA is solidarity across our organization, with the other unions on our campuses, and with other higher ed workers nationally. 1. I've served on and off, mostly on, as a state delegate since 2004.Over that time, I've built working relationships with other delegates across the state and want to continue building and maintaining those. 2. I serve as chair of our statewide Mobilization Committee, which we're in the process of rethinking as an Organizing Committee, and engaging the delegates at Legislative Assembly is a crucial piece of making that project work. 3. As APSCUF learns our way into what the affiliation with AFT (and other groups like HELU) offers us, somebody whose research focuses on national higher ed labor issues should be a useful participant in that process. Curry MalottDepartment: Ed Foundations and Policy Studies Greetings colleagues. I have served as a State Delegate in the past. I am currently serving as an Alternate Delegate. I served as local co-mobilization chair when we were on strike. I am committed to serving as a State Delegate during these difficult times. Many thanks. Lisa MillhousDepartment: Communication and Media As someone who has held various positions in WCU-APSCUF for 25 years, I am willing to represent our campus at the statewide legislative assembly. I have experience from local executive roles as well as state-level leadership experience. I appreciate your support. Dana MorrisonDepartment: Educational Foundations & Policy Studies I have served as an APSCUF State Delegate since 2019. In that time I have had the opportunity to connect with faculty across the state system and build relationships essential for supporting WCU. I take my job as a delegate seriously, keeping detailed notes from the Legislative Assembly and bringing that information back to our campus so that the WCU community is informed of issues impacting the State System. Being an active delegate has made me a more effective representative of faculty in my local role as APSCUF-WCU Recording Secretary. At the statewide level, I have written and passed several successful resolutions that advocate for WCU faculty and students. I hope to build on this work as a delegate by winning another term. Thank you for your support! I look forward to representing you at the APSCUF Statewide Legislative Assembly! Cassandra ReyesDepartment: Criminal Justice I have served as a State Delegate for APSCUF-WCU since 2012. Being an APSCUF-WCU State Delegate offers the opportunity to work with our colleagues from across the State and gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of what they endure and the challenges they face. It also provides a forum for our voices to be heard at the State level. I have served in many roles including the APSCUF-WCU Legislative Committee Chair, an APSCUF-WCU Criminal Justice Department Representative, a State APSCUF Faculty Officer-at-Large on the Executive Council and Personnel Committee, the State APSCUF Legislative Committee/Executive Board, the State APSCUF Nominations and Elections Committee, and the State APSCUF Healthcare Cost Containment Committee (H4C) Chair. If it is your will, I would be honored to continue my service to APSCUF-WCU as a State Delegate. I thank you all in advance for your support. Larry UdellDepartment: Philosophy I have been an APSCUF member since arriving at WCU as an adjunct in the fall of 1999. I am committed to ensuring that WCU remains an outstanding academic institution, and am also committed to seeing that we remain a strong union that plays an important role in shared governance. I anticipate challenging times for unions and higher education, and I should be proud to represent our faculty as we navigate the uncertain times ahead. Cheryl WankoDepartment: English I served for a decade as a WCU APSCUF state representative and have been a department representative from English ever since. During my time (including during the 2016 strike), I served as local and state Public Relations chair. I would like to return as a state rep because the need for a strong union is more important than ever: we all can see the threats to education, free speech, shared governance, equity action, and our natural environment (it is a challenge to think of a part of a decent and flourishing democracy NOT under threat). These conditions require all of us to step up however we can, and, if elected, I promise to represent our campus, our needs, and our values in solidarity with our colleagues across the state as we face these threats. Julie WiestDepartment: Anthropology & Sociology Please consider me for a third term as an APSCUF state delegate. I have found my last four years in this role to be rewarding and important service, as I have learned more about state-level APSCUF and PASSHE, participated in crucial decision-making during difficult times, and am cultivating supportive relationships with our colleagues across the system. At the local level, I have served on the Department Representatives Council for 8+ years, am in my second term as the At-Large State Delegate member of the Executive Committee, am a current member of the Meet & Discuss Team, and serve as the APSCUF Exec Liaison for Faculty Senate. I have a deep appreciation for the value of our faculty union and its dedicated leaders, a firm awareness of the challenges we're now facing, and a solid commitment to the purposes and goals of public higher education. I would be honored to continue representing WCU faculty at the state level; thank you for your consideration. Created and copyrighted by Clifford Johnston, 2000-12 |
